Rear wheel install Help
I guess I had it coming for saying this is the easiest bike to work on I ever owned. Pride before the fall. I replaced the rear tube for a flat and am having a time getting the rear wheel back on.
First off the axle spindle was very difficult to get through the wheel had to use a hammer to coax it. Now when I tighten up the axle nut the wheel is locked. The brake disc is pinned right to the caliper. I think I have the correct spacers on the right sides. The longer one is on the sprocket side and the shorter one is on the caliper side. I looked at the exploded view on the Bike bandit web site and it doesn't look like i am missing any washers or parts.
Does the spacer on the caliper side have a right and and a wrong way to place it in the wheel or doesn't it matter. Other than that I can't imagine what is wrong.
Help!! It is going to be 60 degrees today and I really wanted to go for a nice ride.

I'm looking at the illustrations in the Triumph Manual . They show:
- thin spacer on the sprocket side.
- thicker 'stepped' spacer on the brake disc side, with the small portion on the outside.
I've had mine off and on at least half a dozen times, and aside from it being difficult sometimes to get all the pieces and parts in place before inserting the axle, I've never had the wheel lock up as you are describing.

Thanks Ohio rider. I have had my rear wheel off before and did not have an issue. It has to be the spacers. I was working outside and it was getting dark so I just gave up. I am going to stop at the local Triumph dealer on the way home and look at the rear wheel on one of the bike there. I must have them backwards or something.
Thanks for the help.

+1. I just did this job.
Wide spacer on the left side, wide end of the spacer into the wheel. Other spacer on the right side. Clean them and apply some grease.
I use a longish 3/8" extension (or any equivalent piece) to knock out the axle bolt from the right side. When re-mounting the wheel, I use the extension in the right side to hold everything in place while I line up the left side and start the axle bolt.
The brake caliper should be removed and placed out of the way until the job is finished, without disconnecting the brake line.

Thanks for the info Baltobonneville. I know I have them reversed for sure now. No more working in the dark for me.
Can you tell me this. The longer bearing is tapered. The smaller diameter part of the spacer is longer than the larger diameter area.
Does the smaller diameter part go into the bearing? Or does it face the caliper?

The wide part of the large spacer goes into the wheel bearing.
I got them backwards in broad daylight because I looked at the wrong diagram in the manual, don't feel bad. I was really annoyed at having to do it again, had to walk away for a while.
