Cold Ride

Man you got a bike w/ 60 mi on it & you ridin in 27 deg wearher, & some strange noise comes up, & you think its something strange?? Get to 350+ & then think problems!! Some of these old bikes 40-50000 mi & they get a strange noise in 27 deg's!! Chill out (bad term!) wait till you can really run it!! You are still on heavy "break-in". Dont want to think that till 300 mi+!! The cold will not do too much good (short ride) for breakin!! When you break in- in means breakin the bike - sorta, if that should happen? Abuse the dino oil in her till the 5-600 mi "oil change"! Then do the change over to syn if thats your choice & ride her like your gonna!! Every body (depending on where they live) have preferences. If I was up north still- I would probably use Castrol semi syn & change more often? Here in Fla its like that old stupid drug commercial- the egg w/ drugs . Consider that being your engine on non synthetic? OK during break-in but time to do the change over (hot like here) or go your choice then? These engines dont need too much break-in. They break in over 5-7000 mi. Will run better every day!! So "Ride on & Enjoy -Safely"!!

Speedo Cable. Same thing happened to me on first ride in the 20's. Lubed cable with white lithium grease. That seems to have worked well.

i good bro, ive got over 200k on different bikes. and expect nothing but normal sounds even on a bike with just 60 miles in 27 degrees!. 20 miles each way to the job.been doing this ride for 25 years. turns out the speedo doesnt like it .but not to worry it will !!

Re-Route the speedo cable outside the lower cable loop. While you have it disconnected from the hub, pull out the cable and lube it good (I use white lythium grease). Put it back in the hub with the housing outside the lower retainer loop. This loop puts too much angle on the cable and it will "BUZZ" under 40 degrees. By leaving it out of the loop it decreases the bend angle.
Worked for me and many others on a thread about 4 months ago.
