2008 AI System Modification?

I recently picked up my 2008 Bonneville and I bought a Jenks Air Injection Elimination Kit from Bella Corse.
It seems there must be some design modification on the '08 because the large hose from the airbox does not connect directly to the reed valve. There is a black plastic part between them with a hose coming into it from the airbox & a hose coming out of it, connecting it to the reed valve.
The thin vacuum line between the reed valve & the carburettor manifold mentioned in the Jenks instructions seems to be completely missing.
The mystery 'black plastic' part also has an electrical connection.
At this point I decided to quit and take some advice.

I've checked previous posts on AI removal but couldn't find anything specific to the '08 and I haven't been able to find anything with a reference to the 'black plastic part.

Any advice or pointers would be appeciated.

mine had that "mystery plastic thing" as well

just unplug it and disconnect.

I think its a solenoid to operate the valve

there was another post about the same topic a few weeks back

I just did my 2007 (with California emissions) and there was a lot of extra stuff everywhere that i had never seen mentioned on the threads, so i just took it ALL off. Just don't plug the hose coming out of the center connection between the two carbs, this is needed to vent and balance the float bowls.

Rocket

I had bought an Air Injection Elimination Kit from 'New Bonneville' for my recently purchased 2008 Bonneville standard.
The large hose from the airbox does not connect directly to the air valve. There is a black plastic solenoid valve in between with an electrical connection and a hose coming into it from the airbox and a hose coming out of it to the air valve.
The small rubber hoses between the air valve vacuum advance and the carburettor vacuum take-offs doesn't exist. However, there are some extra electrical connections at the base of the carbies. I reckon that these are connected indirectly to the black plastic solenoid valve, which is used to control the operation of the air valve rather than the vacuum advance arrangement.
If this is the case it should just be a matter of removing the hoses and electrical connection from the black plastic solenoid valve and the air valve, plug up the hole in the air box and air injector ports, once the air injectors are removed.
That's what I'll be doing.
I'll post again with the results.
Cheers

Sounds like you have the California emissions stuff on your bike. Photos would be helpful.

No, those connections are for the carb heaters. Nothing to do with the AI. There's no "vacuum advance" on these bikes. Ignition timing advance is controlled by the TPS and ECU.

"vacuum advance"

I realise that there is no "vacuum advance" on this bike. I was not refering to the ignition timing at all. Perhaps "advance" was the wrong word. There is a vacuum diaphram arrangement, similar to that on an ignition vacuum advance, on the air valve that operates the AI on the pre-2008 bikes, which is not present on the 2008 bikes. I also realise that one set of electrical connections at the base of the carbs is for the heaters. However, on the 2008 model there is a second set of connections. It is those that I was refering to.

All the extra AI stuff on the 2008 Bonnie

I disconnected all the hoses and the electrical connector and removed the air valve, black plastic solenoid complete with hoses and then the AI tubes from the head. I then plugged the hole in the airbox and plugged the AI holes in the head with the supplied bolts. See attached photo showing all the removed bits. Once the bike was back together I took it for a cruise followed by a spirited ride on the highway and felt an instantanious improvement. Power hadn't changed but delivery was much smoother with no more popping on decelaration!
