What are my carbs trying to tell me? Backfire on startup.

After I put the TORs on I get a backfire everytime I start the bike cold. Choke pulled out all the way, press button, POW, then bike starts. Warm starts are no problem. Didn't do this until the TORs. I put in 115 mains and one shim under the needles. Another observation is that the pilot mixture screws don't respond to changes. I can put the screws pretty much anywhere and the bike runs the same (runs fine at all combinations of load & rpm).

Other Motorcycle: I wish, but with a BONNIE
Extra Motorcycle: who needs another
Choke??

Sounds to me like you may not need your choke all the way out, too much gas I think is producing the POW.

As far as you mixture screws go, are you sure you are turning them? They can't work the same everywhere, if they are as you say, then you have some other issue clouding the situation. An issue not related to the TORs, but by circumstance appeared at the same time. My best guess would be cloggish in the carbs.

Good Luck

Question Backfire

Mine does just the opposite- it will give an occassional pop when its real hot after a ride & I start it up to pull in the garagew/ a little throttle. Never has popped on a cold start!

For curiosity, are there any Scrambler owners here w/out TORs who can say if they get any popping on decel or start-up?

Seems like many w/ the tors on scramblers cant seem to get them dialed in just right

Almost make one wonder how effective they are at times
