No More Purple Headers
I finally pulled the headers and gave them several coats of Supper High Temp satin finish paint. I know Ceramic coat is the way to go, but this was faster and cheaper. If it lasts a couple of years with minor touch-ups then I'll be happy. I was real happy with the results, the wife even commented on how nice they looked (she never comments on my mods).

Looks really sharp Derby Boy.
Clean look for sure. Those pipes were WAY purple/hot. I ran 115 mains for a bit at a similar elevation as yours and found them to be too lean. Went to 120's. Have you had yours dyno'd or checked the plugs?

I think that your painted headers look great.
However, I have never seen pipes as burnt as yours were. I have seen them blue and gold, but never this dark (?).

Pipes and fairing
Pipes look good! Who makes your fairing. I am looking for something like that for long trips this summer, but is easy to remove.

Spin Dave

Pipes
I agree- your pipes stock really "colored"! The new paint version looks good! I hope they last? Maybe a set of "cheap" reverse cones from Emgo painted will finish it out rite on?
Hell they are $49.95/ ea, so you cant do too wrong $$ wise? They are real thin metal so wrapping the baffles x2 will keep the deep mellow sound & get the look you are 1/2 way to getting? Not bad mufflers (considering the price) & properly wrapped- sound real sweet.
If you like the real classic British look- the dunstall replica's are the same price w/ the same wrappable baffle/ longer tho! I am gonna rescue my gutted stockers some day soon - before they get some irreversable damage. I love them - sound wise, but wanna save them for the return to stock thing some day? Looks good! Ride safe!!!

Looking good! I ceramic coated mine but they are more of a flat finish. I like the bit of a shine you got with the paint. I'm hoping my ceramic coating is more durable than painting, but even if you get a few years out of the paint it's well worth it.

Spin Dave,
The fairing beleive it or not came from J.C. Whitney, it's a Mair sports fairing. It was given to me by a Beemer bud cause it wouldn't clear his blinkers.
As for the hot looking pipes I have to blame the dealer for poor set-up. It took me about 500 miles till I removed the AI and adjusted my carbs. Dealer had the right side 1-1/4 out the left 2 out. By then the damage was done. Since then I have gone to 115's and 1 shim and 3-1/4 out on the idle screws. It runs great so I don't think I'll up the jets for now.
Other than that thanks for the props on the paint job. I may look into the cheapy emgo's. I also have to thank those on this site that inspired me to paint them up.
