broken drill bit

I purchased some after market mirrors, but in order to get them to fit the America I had to drill a hole in the shafts then thread the hole.

The first mirror went just fine, but on the second mirror I broke off a small drill bit in the shaft. I can't see the end of the bit, so I can't pull it out.

Does anyone know of a great way to remove a broken drill bit? I really don't want to toss my new mirrors.

Kem

Tricky one, as the drill is hardend steel the only safe way to get it out would be spark erossion, the opposite of arc welding. You may be lucky and be able to break it up in the hole and remove it piece by piece but this could damage the mirror

I got it. It only took one more beer and I cut the end of the shaft off so I could grab the bit. Kem

I'll drink to that! And to loosely quote the mayor from the Simpson's show, "Beer makes our women look better".

Other Motorcycle: I wish, but with a BONNIE
Extra Motorcycle: who needs another
Beer

Hmm, and here I've thought that it was only a health drink
Just another reason to consume at will.

After all that work and beer (not that I'm complaining about the beer) I like the stock mirrors better, so I reinstalled them. Kem

broken bit

if that was only a small pilot hole, why not drill down wth a larger bit to expose the broken bit? might even be able to drill right thru the borken piece.
