Trouble with the hose on the left carb - bonnie
Does anybody know what the little hose on the left carb (just before the head) is for? I was riding my Bonneville today and I noticed the engine sounded weird and was stalling... I took a look and it and the hose was disconnected from mount... I guess false air was going in I might have ridden like this for a couple of minutes...
Also, the hose has a hard piece of something inside... Is that OK???
Strange is that the hose is only on the left side, the same mount on the right side is covered...
Take a look at the picture attached. Thanx

It's the Air Injection system which provides some reduction in pollution, burns off some of the unburned gasoline. Most of us remove it. Search here for "AI" or "air injection" and you'll get a lot of hits.

Hose
as said- the A/I. Best off getting rid of it. Doesnt really do much cept really blue your pipes & cause some popping. REAL OLD pollution control technology given up by all auto makers years ago. I guess it was the cheapest/ easiest way for Triumph to get the Bonne into many countrys??

Thanx guys... Will try to get rid of it as soon as my warranty ends... What matters at this time is:
Was it fatal that the hose went off for a while???
Should I use some clamps to make it tight???
Thanx

Hose
Not fatal- no problem!! Getting rid of it will not void your warranty! Dealer took mine off. They do on many when the bike is new!! Feel uneasy about it- have the dealer do it! The bike properly tuned will not pollute any worse w/o the A/I. What it does is pump fresh air in the exhaust (supposedly to burn off un burnt stuff?) If you take dirty air & add fresh air to it it will look aah fresher?? A real old tech long lost. Id guess 95% of all Bonne's here have the A/I gone!! Want to start a poll?? Mines gone - is yours???? Give it a post - new thread,. Be curious to see how many Bonne owners still have that thing still attached?

Every now and then I knock mine off by accident turning the petcock. It'll run a bit rough, maybe backfire, and then I know immediately to pull over and pop that line back on. It's just kind of sitting on there, and doesn't firmly attach at all.

OK, I'll call my dealer tomorrow... I am still afraid, that Europe is a bit conservative in this... Even when I went through the AI Removal kit manual, they say that some countries might have trouble with that... Well, let's see... Anyway, I'll keep you up-to-date (specially European guys)... Thanx for the posts...

If the end of the hose is stretched out wider, and if it is long enough, just cut the end off and it should stick better. Also might want to use a small tie wrap pulled down snug as a cable clamp.

I noticed a problem with mine yesterday on the right carb. I had the hose on backwards and the little hard thing (an orifice, I think) didn't let the hose fit well on the black plastic tee where it joins with the other carb. Noticed the hose on the other carb was flipped around (orifice was near the carb, not near the tee). The hose grabs better that way.
I know I'm the one who goofed it up while rejetting my carbs.
