Moose Bars...

Dale, Looks good. Yes, you need to loose the Moose wrapper. I have the Triumph wrap and it is looks nice and is good for storing some insurance paperwork underneath (it comes off with velcro).

Did you go for the progressive fork springs? They really helped the corner stability for me.

Didn't change the springs (yet). I think the next mod is going to be some sort of small windshield or flyscreen.

I reused the old grip from the left side and tried using double sided tape made for putting on golf grips. I think I used the wrong solvent, however. I used charcoal lighter fluid to make the tape slippery enough to get the grip on. On a golf grip the solvent evaporates but I notice the motorcycle grip still moves a little after more than 24 hours. I might have to pull it off and use a different kind of glue.

Grips & tips

Go to the dealer or bikebandit and get a new grip, and the cross bar cover. Then use compressed air nozzle to take the grip off and put it back on. Stick it under from one end, full pressure, it will move 2". Then hit it on the other side (inside) and it will come off. Put new one back on the same way. No lubes, nothing, easy.

I didn't have access to compressed air when I did my bars, so I just used WD-40 and a long screwdriver under the old grip to get it off. Washed the grip with dish soap to get it squeaky clean again, then used the wife's hairspray as a lube/grip glue to re-attach it to the new bars. Been using hairspray as grip glue for years now with no problems.

You guys should post your pics in that new Bonneville Handlebar Thread. It's set as a sticky at the top of the Technical Talk area. Scrambler owners should be able to benefit from the thread, also

Dale.. I've got the Scrambler flyscreen for sale on the classified section if you're interested.

Handlebar swap

Hi ... New member, first post!

I found these bars on EBay UK and they are exactly what I've been looking for. Nice pullback, much the same height as the originals and all the cables fit a treat. They were apparently designed for a US spec BSA Rocket 3, are brand new and cost less than £20. I also replaced the grips and that awful plastic headlamp with a chrome 7" repro item again from EBay UK. The lens is a Cibie unit and transforms night time visability. I also changed the indicators for Lucas repro items ... It looks more like my old 70's Meriden Bonnie every day!
