I hate intermittent electrical problems that refuse to manifest whenever they are in the hands of the mechanic....

Last time I had something similar it turned out to be a frayed wire in the harness that was grounding out in a most annoying and intermittent way. Took a loooong time to find and fix.

My sympathies go out to you.

(perhaps the ghost of Lucas?)

Side stand switch? It's a long shot, but they're known to go bad, and easy to check.

My 2 cents:

Take the bike to another dealer. The vent for the fuel tank IS the fuel cap--not the overflow tube that connects to the "roll-over" valve. This is a SAFETY device, and if your dealer removed it, he is not qualified to work on motorcycles, IMHO.

With what you have said has been done, the venting of the fuel tank should have been eliminated as the cause of the problem. The next place to look is electrical IF the CA emissions system has not been compromised. If the CA emissions system has been removed or altered, that would be the next place to look for the problem, IMHO.

Good luck,

Have your mechanic check the ignitor. A friend had similar problems on his '05Bonne and they found a faulty ignitor was the problem. Good Luck!

update

I picked the bike up today at the dealer. They told me they put 50 miles on it, and the mechanic followed me for another 20 miles after I left the shop. It ran perfectly.

He said he didn't really find anything obvious that is clearly the cause of the problem. There was a bracket holding some part of the float bowl venting system that was loose. He tightened that. He also said the battery is not taking or holding a full charge, so that could be contributing to the problem. He recommended replacing it, so I am going to do that on Monday. I won't be riding again until Monday, so hopefully it will continue to run flawlessly after sitting for a few days.

Well here it is 4 weeks later, I've put a few hundred miles on the bike, and everything is peachy keen with the bike.

WRONG

Cruising at 85 MPH on 5 South, and all of the sudden sputter, sputter, flame out. I coasted a a while (in the middle of traffic) and then was able to bump start the bike. It the continued to sputter the rest of the 15 miles of freeway I had to ride. Once I got off the freeway, the bike died at every stop light between the offramp and my house.

That makes 5 separate riding incidents where the bike has completely shut off on my. The first time the bike had about 4700 miles on it, and now the bike has about 6500.

I have had it in to the dealer 5 times now, and they have not been able to replicate the problem or get it fixed.

I finally decided to ask Triumph to refund my money or replace the bike because it is unsafe and unfixable, but they refused since the dealer can't replicate the problem.

My plan is to get an attorney and see if that gets me some help. I'm sick of coasting down the freeway.

Has anyone here had any experience with lemon laws and motorcycles?

pick up coil replaced

had similar issues a little while back... spluttered and died when the bike had warmed up. would start right back up again in 5-10 minutes. did this for a long time, but never at the dealer. finally died one day and wouldnt start. trailered it to dealer. started right up again...but thankfully died after i left it there

basically it was the pick up coil....they had regapped it per the triumph service notice but it still failed. They mentioned that around 06 there was a batch of poor quality pick up coils.

thought that it would solve my rough running as well, but thats a whole other story..........

I had similar problem a while ago. My case turnout to be a small amount of water sitting inside of tank / bottom of carbs. My bonnie is parked in roofed garage, but she was under rain for a couple of hours right before the problem started. I'm not sure how water got in, though.

My dealer drained the tank 3 times and completely eliminated water from the fuel line. I've ridden 400 miles after the fix, and haven't had this problem yet.
