New chain. Removal and install

Hi folks.

I'm in the process of replacing my chain. Removal is easy. Installation is another thing. DO I need to remove the swingarm to put on the new chain ?

Any tips are appreciated.

Thanks

I guess I should also add: Will my new chain come with a master link of some sort or will it be one piece ?

If you order the chain thru Triumph, I believe it will be continuous, with no masterlink. Removal of the old chain, if it is an OEM Triumph chain, and installation of the new chain requires removing the swingarm.

If you order an RK, DiD, or similar chain, it will not be continuous. You will typically need to 'cut' a few links off the new chain so it is the same length as the chain you're removing. You will also need to 'cut' the old chain so it can be removed without removing the swingarm. This requires a special tool, called a chain breaker, and usually you'll need to grind down the rivit heads before using the tool.

You will need a riviter to install the new master link.

This isn't intended to serve as directions for doing the work, but as an overview of what is involved. There should be a number of threads on this forum describing in greater detail how to change out a drive chain and sprockets.
