Trip Reset Knob Fell Off
Well Guys,
After my last fill up at the gas station, I went to reset the Tripmeter and the knob was gone. This must have happened to someone before? Can you get a replacement from Triumph? Is there a substitute that I can use in the meantime? Something readily available from the Local Hardware Store?
I think it happened because I turned it the worng way once and it came off. I cranked it back on, but shoulda used locktite or something to make sure it didn't vibrate off. Just a word of caution for anyone out there possibly in the future.
Thanks in advance

Knob
Your not the 1st- dont feel bad! I am sure there is sone thing that will fit? Rpobably use an aresol can nozzle (push on) as a temp?? I dont know what it looks like (the stem) but I think you can find a spray nozzle from something that will push on & work till you get a rreplacekment? Good luck- important to know how many miles you got left!!

To order a new one from Bike Bandit you can use this link... http://www.bikebandit.com/houseofmot...e-t100/o/m6887
Type "trip knob" in the "find" field and click go. This should locate the instruments schematic for you. You'll need items 13 & 14.

Thanks
Hey Road Dog,
Are we related? Road dog - Surf dog, probably way back somewhere in the distant past,... heh heh ha HA!
Wow that Bike Bandit site ROCKS! I've seen it mentioned here while lurking about, garnering facts and figures, but never really needed to use it.
Thanks for your input, parts are ordered and should be here by end of next week.

I had the same thing happen. I got a replacement at my dealer. Apparently, there are multiple reset knobs. Once I got home, I put a little Loctite on the screw that holds it in place. Hopefully, that will prevent it from happening again. I think the part was around $8.

Yeah,
Way to go SoCalNewbie.
I'm sure down there a quick trip to any of the multiple Triumph Dealerships you can get anything you want! Me, I'm not so lucky. Good thing we got the Internet. I knew it had to have happened to someone else though. Locktite is in my future too. J.Dog

Lost mine one month after I got my 06 Black Bonnie . Went to dealer for replacement and they tried 6 different knobs for the Bonneville and none of them seemed to be the right one. Finally they found one when pressed against the turning screw was able to re-set the milage. I now carry it in my tank bag in a sandwich bag. When I fill up with gas I wip it out push it in the hole and presto I can change it back to all zeros. total cost for the knob ziltch

Whooops I guess there are several
Hey Road Dog,
Well, it was worth a shot at Bike Bandit.
I went to the site. They had a diagram of the knob and set screw. I ordered it, but it ain't the right one. The one the sent me was like in their official Triumph diagram, with a setscrew that tightens down the center of the shaft.
My dealer is on Oahu, another island away from me, so I can't just go over there and test fit a buncha different ones like "oldmanjob" did, or SoCalnewbie.
I guess what happened was once while resetting the tripometer, I turned it the wrong way and it unscrewed and the knob came off. After trying to get it back on by turning it the other way, it did go back on and I was able to reset my mileage a few more times before it fell off. Thats when I realized I shoulda used some locktite after the first incident.
Now its the weekend and I gotta wait until Tueday when the Dealer on Oahu opens back up. Maybe they'll know what I'm talking about.
Anybody else have a clue on this type of Reset Knob? It screws on by turning it? No set screw.

Did you also loose the little part inside that the screw that holds the knob screws onto? I lost that part also and it was part of the speedo and couldn't be purchased seperately, at least not from a Triumph dealer. I ended up getting a cheap plastic collar doodad from lowes and screwed my knob to it. Then I got a mini tach, then a mini speedo, then a bracket, the rest is history.

I replaced a OE black knob with a chrome knob for a Harley. Dirt cheap (for a HD part you say???) and looks great.
If I can find the stock knob, you are more than welcome to it. PM me with your address. Better yet, send me an airline ticket and I'll personally deliver it.
/Mike
[EDIT] Check that Joe, I've got you addy and I just found the stock knob. I'll pop it in the mail. You'll have to come up with a screw (there's a Elliot Spitzer joke in there somewhere).
