Changing needles in my speedmaster took the top cover off tryed to get at the needle with a needle nose but the pliers I had was to big so I have a little hook so hooked the top of the needle started to pull up and the diaphragm came up so no big deal grap it tip it over got the needle out put the tbs needle and shims in put that side back together went to the other side took the cover off and thought I would just pull on the diaphragm turned it over took out the old needle put in the new one with the shims and now it looks like the rubber diaphragm stretch a bit and don't fit in the groove the way it should any thoughts or will I have to buy new piston/diaphragm thanks
Jerry Education cost money no matter how you get it.
That was the longest sentence I have ever seen. Not sure what you asked. But if the diaphragm can be put back & the top installed I bet it is okay. I pulled the diaphragm completely out then removed the needles. I had some small washers that worked okay for shims then I bought a kit but have never changed out the washers. Also get some of those allen head bolts for your carburators from New Bonneville. They work great.
Good luck. Bob.
No worries - leave the diaphragm in it's position overnight, with the cover removed, it'll shrink back given time.
The same thing happened to me, I just left it to the diaphragm fairies and hey presto in the morning they had done their job and I was able to put the cover back on no problem.
Ok the diaphragm won't stay in the groove. But I will leave it in positoin over night and try agian tomorrow. Maybe the diaphragm fairies will vist me tonight. Thanks all....
I’ve heard of people placing the diaphragm in the freezer to shrink and stiffen it. Seeing that you live in Minnesota, getting it cold should not be a problem
While I did work on it in an unheated garage temp outside was about 32 degrees. I would say not much warmer in the garage. Think that would make a difference.
There a right bstrd to get back in the slot sometimes. Its the concave affect of the diaphragm. best way I found was to fill the grove up with petroleum jelly and press the edging in. The jelly holds it in place. Work it around slowly keeping your other 7 hands free to hold it in.
