Rear Axle

Hi,
I recently got out of the military and while I was in I let my brother ride my 2001 Bonnie. When I got it back I noticed that the rear end squeaked a lot. So I asked him about it. He said that he had replaced the rear tire. He really isn't the most mechanically inclined persen (me neither) but he did all the work himself. So I took it apart and notice that the axle was starting to wear in certain parts. When I put it back together I put a thin layer of grease on the axle. It didn't squeak for about 100 miles and then it started up again. It obviously has something to do with the axle but I was hoping you guys could help me out with how to fix it. Thanks.

Axle starting to wear? It rolls on bearings...I woukd not ride it much until a mechanic can take a look. Maybe it was over torqued? Bad bearings?
Changing a rear motorcycle tire is not an easy job, especially for someone not mechanically inclined. Take it to a dealer.

Axle

When he changed the tire - did he put the ALL important spacer back in?? Many here have forgotten it & it will start as you describe! Can eat the bearing if left out long enuff!
