Key Relocation Kit
Has anybody here installed a key relocation kit on their Bonnie/Thruxton? I assume that the connecting point for the wiring harness can no longer be located in the headlight bucket...am I correct? If so, where did you locate yours, and how did you protect it from the elements? Pics?
Thanks,
G

I gotta take some to find the pics, but here's my two cents:
I put my key in the left side cover. I had to pull the wiring out of the headlight and split the wrapping to about half way down under the tank in order the pull it all back and get it to go to the side cover. I think I soldered one thing. The wiring diagram in the shop manual was a plus. If I remember correctly, the most difficult thing was getting the bulky wiring connector to fit in my removed airbox area, and taping the wires backtogether tight so that the tank did not sit cock-eyed.
Not a super difficult mod, but it is intimidating when you see those wires laying everywhere.

Key Relocate
I cant see why the key isnt OK where it is? Unless there is a specefic reason to re-locate it, I would rather spend my time & $$ on some other mods that really do something for the performance or looks! INMO?

I have a yet to be installed D9 mini gauge bracket with ignition relocation. There is no wire relocation needed for it. Just move switch up between the gauges. I know there's posts with pics of it. Not sure about the one that relocates it under the tank.

I'm relocating it cuz I don't want the key/key fob to mark up the shiny new powder coat (see my post on TTHO, http://www.triumphrat.net/triumph-tw...er-w-pics.html). Anyway, I got the answer I needed from our good friend Sean, at British Customs.

I wrapped the connector with some rubber mastic tape and wire tied it to the frame. Havent had any problems with water getting inside the plug.

Scratches
I use one of those soft rubber float FOBS for boat keys. Makes it easy not to forget to take out the key & no scratches.

Don: you and I are not going to convince people who like to mod everything to accept leaving things alone. Not in our lifetime. I just leave the bike ignition key without anything on it. Simple solution. I much prefer the location on the Bonnie to the location on a lot of the bikes I have had. Sue's Vulcan has the key located low on the right side in front of the engine. You can't see it when sitting on the bike and have to lean out to find the switch. Real PIA. But you get used to it. I think a modders creed is: "I change it because I can." Mine is "I leave it alone because I can."
