Pods, slip-ons and jetting?

Pods ( open element air filters ), a set of slip on free flow mufflers and the coincideing proper jetting?

To us Harley guys, this is comonly known as a Stage One Upgrade. To a guy with a 883 Sportster, its required before the bike even leaves the dealer just to make the bike rideable. Often called "Paying the Harley Tax". To a Harley, it will yeild 8-12 solid horsepower. Is this also a common practice to the new Bonnevilles???

Are there complete kits that include the muffs, and air cleaners?

What sort of power does it yield?

If its expensive and difficult to dial in, should i be looking for a used bike thats already set up like this when I start my search?

Whats it cost?

Neil

Oooh, you are gonna get told to do a site search...which is what I'd do. It's at the top.

The only complete kit (with slip-ons) I've seen is from BritishCustoms. you can also look at cool sites like bellacorse and newbonneville. A system like this will probably be around $1000 depending on pipes.

...and yes, lots of us do it, and it will certainly "wake up" the stock Bonnie.

I agree on the "Harley Tax". I went one further with my new '07 Superglide FXD.
It seemed like such a pig out of the dealer parking lot I opted for an 1800 CC SE Kit @ 1100 Miles. Cams, heads, pistons, Jugs, Pod, exhaust and computer tune. She runs good now. 12.5@105.5 in the 1/4 mile. Not bad for a 650lb HOG. My Bonnie is staying stock motor wise cause in the past I almost always regretted ripping the stock parts off and tying up my time while I could be riding.

Try "jenks bolts" they have a great tuning guide for free you can print out. It gives in detail of what kind of jets/shims/idle mixture turns you need for a given intake set-up and pipes. Also on rat.net (here) you can find detailed instructions with photos on how to install the stuff. I have never touched a carb before and I was able to do all the work installing everything in less than a few hours. The chart claims it gives my Thruxton about 10-13 hp and I believe it plus it runs WAY better that stock.

Thanks for the leads. And Deacon, that FXD looks like a great setup. Wish I had the cash for a New Dyna 'cause I'd be riding a new Lowrider if I did, but the doctors and insurance companies stole it all. I'll do a search.
