Metzler Tires

Picked up my bike today from the dealer today after a 12K service and new rear tire. I had asked if they could install the same Metzler it had from the factory... "yes, we have those in stock". But when I check the new rear tire it's a Metzler Lazertec.

My '06 still has the original front tire, which is a Lazertec. But it did have a different Metzler (ME-Z2, I think) on the rear... that's what I thought I was getting. I would prefer a new rear tire just like the original... and that's why I specifically asked for it.

I'm a little perturbed that they didn't let me know it was a different model than the original rear. I'll probably just keep it and not raise a stink, but I kinda think the tread pattern looks a little like a truck tire, compared to the ME-Z2 that I liked so much.

Here's a pic of the Lazertec tires, front and rear.
-------------
1) What do you think about the rear tire tread pattern?

2) What do you think I should do, or what would you do?

Ride it, and enjoy it. Should work as well if not better than the OEM. Go put a few miles on it and see what she feels like. If you don't like the way the bike handles, let the dealer know & have them order you what you thought you were getting in the first place.

Well, that's my opinion anyway.

The rear on your speedy is an ME880, mine is anyway. Tire and other companies will often change products in their lines for a variety of reasons, usually/hopefully for the better. I replaced both metzlers on my speedy last year at 20000 K's and could have got another season and the replacements were identical.

I put these on my Scrambler 8000km ago.
No problems with them and still plenty of life left in them.

Cheers

I got a new set of Lazertecs last fall, a B-Day gift from my wife. I haven't put many miles on them and have never heard anything negative about them. Mine had Bridgestones from the factory.

lasertec

my rear tyre is a ME-Z2 (sounds like a messerschmitt WW11 plane) and I dont like it. find it a bit too slippery in the wet. I have skidded the rear easily on wet roads when applying brakes

the lazertec you have on the rear looks better for slippery conditions as it has more tread, and thats what I prefer.

I love Metzlers. I have had them on several bikes and never had a problem. I think there are only 2 tires in my opinion Metzlers and Pirelli's . . . although I did like Bridgestone Potenza RE series on my Porsche's also, nice soft rubber. Now I have to run out to the garage and see exactly which Metzlers came on my 2007!

The metzler you did not get is

discontinued. It was a one size tire with no dedicated front any way. It still shows in some metzler stuff but their rep told me it was done. except for stock on hand.

If you really want a treat, next time you change the rubber, get a set of sport demons, they make the lazertechs feel like slick truck tires, For just a little more you can go to the scorpian syncs, both these are super wet or dry and give good life. The sport demons really seem to hold their profile well. The demons last a little longer than the syncs.
