A few questions from a newbie

After just posting a thread in the general chatroom extolling the virtues of my beloved new T100 I was wonering if you experienced chappies could enlighten of a couple of issues?
I have just a Triumph offroad silencers fitted and am really chuffed with the new sound (how it should have sounded originally) and a touch more acceleration, but I have noticed a lot of pooping on the overun - much more than expected. The bike also has intermittent whiff of petrol. Not all the time, but now and again. The carbs were rejetted by the main dealer. One reason I went for the factory pipes was that I expected a straight swap with no tinkering needed. Are these symptons normal, and if so is there an easy fix.
The other thing is I have notice a tiny smear of oil developing from the top end around the rocker covers on the right side. Is this a common occurance?
The bike is an immaculate '05 with 9k on the clock, and judging by it's only previous owner, has led a very pampered existance, so I wasn't anticipating any mechanical issues.
Please forgive my ignorance, as I am very new to Hinckly Triumphs.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

Jeff - I'll say Hi and Welcome here and hopefully answer you questions too

Ref popping on overrun I'd guess that your mixture screws need a 1/4 - 1/2 turn out

The oil misting is nothing to worry about unless it starts pouring out, keep a check on you oil level, just incase. Some would say it's normal, it's a Triumph after all

As for the petrol smell, is there any particular time it happens i.e. before/after starting

Anyone reading the last message that was confused, there was a typo in there.
Just to put thing straight my bike is not actually pooping when the throttle is shut off, but popping!
Now maybe one of you old hands might give me the benefit of your wisdom?

Hi Skyblue,
thanks for the advice.
I'll try the mixture screw. As for the oil, that's a relief, I was getting a bit worried. I have had a couple of Meriden Trumps years ago, which I expected to leak. I swear the engines were made from recycled collenders. At least it saved changing the oil. I haven't managed to pin the smell down to a specific time, but I will try and keep a note. Funnilly enough the fuel consumption seem to have gone up from around 45mpg to 50ish since I changed the pipes.

Pooping- Popping Whatever

If the A/i is still hooked up- there is your problem! No its easy to remove. Buy the kit or go into the place here that will give you the sizes of the bolts etc.. I did mine- I remember the bolts being Nissan oil drain plugs. Sounds liike all else is OK?

Probably didn't have any until you changed things. That's how it works. Changes seldom go perfectly. Since it is popping after the dealer "fixed" it up with the new pipes, why not ask the dealer to fix the popping, for free. He should. The old leak may or may not be a leaking cap gasket. Just watch it and DON"T try to tighten the bolts on the top of the cam covers without knowing what you are doing. You could strip them easily.

I may be wrong, and two good mechanics above already think so, but I don't think that removal of the AI should affect the popping one way or the other, but it does make it easier to get at the plugs. There are kits you can buy or you can follow instructions in the tech blogs section on what to buy to make your own kit.

I would try adjusting the mixture screws just a hair, as has already been suggested.

If you are patient and work with your mechanic all these things are minor and should be worked out fairly easily, so do enjoy that new ride!!!

I'll just add that I would recommend checking the airbox for fuel...remove the filter and look to see if there is any fuel or oil in the airbox--if so, clean it up, and check to see if it happens again over time.

Check the oil leak and try to determine if it is leaking between the head and cam cover (probably a gasket problem) or is the oil above where the cam cover meets the head...if it is the latter, check the oil cooler connections for signs of a leak...dealer can install a new washer on the banjo connection and fix a leak at the oil cooler connections in a few minutes or some on here do this themselves.

Thanks guys for all the advice.
I think first port of call is to take it back to the dealer (another afternoon of work - ho hum) and see what they say.
Then it may be a case of just tinkering. All I wanted was a bit more noise, I haven't had the bike long enough for the desire to start making big mods yet - unfortunately things are rarely that simple.
