First post, questions.

Quick introduction if I may. I'm 43 and have been riding most of my life. My first big street bike was a 77 Triumph Tiger 750. I have been riding Harleys for the past 20 years and am selling my last and final Harley...a 1975 Shovehead. I am interested in purchasing a new Triumph. The bike that really catches my fancy is the T100. I am no longer the young agile kid I used to be and insist on forward controls. None of the Bonneville's I have looked at seem to have them. I am not the least bit interested in the America as an alternative. I have looked everywhere and cannot find forward controls for the new Bonneville's. What are my options? Am I stuck making them, or are forward controls availible? Can they be swapped from other models?

Just for kicks I included a picture on me and my tiger back in my senior year in high school. Yes, thats a beard in high school. I had just turned 18 in that picture and was sportin' my new toy.

Thank, Neil

Hey Neil, welcome to the forum
Glad your loking into getting a Triumph of any kind.

I can't help you concerning the forward foot controls but iffen they're out there then somebody here will know about it. As far as I know there is no Kit and I don't recall the topix of interchangeability with SM BA ever being brooched.

One option that is out there is the "Modre peg lowering Kit". He's on this forum and several people here have gotten these and seem quite happy with them. They lower the pegs by 2". Hiway bar for the Bonnie are out there. They don't have intergrated controls of course.

I know you said "insist", but bere with me a bit.
I'm 44 weigh 280lbs and stand 6'3". I'm pretty banged up but have no issues with the Bonnie.
The peg to seat height is plenty for me and if I wanted I could even go with rearsets. My knees and hips really like the neutral peg placement and don't bother me at all after a long ride.
That's just me.

If you get a Bonnie I would suggest that you give it a good honest try with the stock pegs. It might be that you just need some time to get the riding muscles loosened up a bit. It will also give you some time to explore your options.

Try to get a test ride. They are roomier than they look.

I used this site's seach feature (upper right) for you.
search query was "forward foot controls" in the "Twin Talk" with the "child forums (sub forums)" boxed checked.

Not young and agile at 43? . . what has that got to do with forward controls.
If you insist on forward controls you'll be limited to an America or a Speedmaster; or you'll have to make your own.
I'm 62 and want my feet under me, not in front of me.

Here's my kid picture, taken in 1964.

Welcome

I too want my feet under me. I find fwd controls to be uncomfortable. You are relying on shocks to take the beating from a large pothole/ whatever instead 0f your back! Std pegs give you the option of "Hiking Up" to lessen the shock. Thay make hwy pegs for the bonne to lessen cramping on long trips. I have a bad back from prior incidents & will not ever own a bike w/ fwd controls! Yes the T-100 is a real beauty!! I lost out on an Tangerine & Opal T-100. Went for the Bonne Black & did a custom design to it in the showroom, & then played lets make a deal. Feeling guilty for selling mt T&O T-100, & me being in the showroom for 3-4 hrs +, I think he just wanted to get rid of me so he gave me a deal I couldnt refuse!! Check her out here under photo search- CApt Don Only 1 pic there. Good luck w/ whatever you get & welcome again. Id rethink the fwd control idea??

Thanks for the input. If the T 100 winds up in the garage, I will have to make up some of my own. I saw a post here where a guy installed some small 10 inch bars. They called them baby apes. I thought they looked great on his bike. Those bars and a set of forwards and I think I might be happy with a new Bonnie. Still, until my Shovel sells, I am just window shopping. I can hear all the purists loosing there minds, but thats just my personal idea of what a Triumph should be.

Bikerlaw - I'm not sure if is my bike or Koifarms with the baby apes, you refer to, but I have to admit, that sometimes I'd like to stretch my legs out in front, especially on a long haul journey motorways (highways) etc

My answer to this problem is to fit a pair of highway bars and keep the stock pegs for the twisties

Good luck with the sale of the HD and welcome to the forum

First of all - welcome aboard we're glad your here! I'm always happy to hear that someone is getting rid of a Harley and buying a Triumph. Like those above said - there really is no forward controls for Bonneville's. What I suggest is the Modre 2" lowering kit and the BillyBar Highway bar. I would also suggest the Triumph King & Queen seat known here as the K&Q.

Thanks again for the welcome. And skyblue, the post I was refering too was the koifarms bars. They are very similar to the bars I used to run on my old Triumph. Either the same or a couple inches taller than the old photo I posted. My guess, and of course its just me grabbin at straws at this point, is going to be 8 or 10 inch hi rise bars and maybe the 2 inch dropped pegs with a highway bar setup. But until I actually get one home and look at it, I can't judge what it might entail to make a set of forwards, and send them off to the power coater (Bonneville Black), or to the chromer's (T100). You can't have owned Shovelheads for as many years as me and not gotten real good at making up parts by hand.

The "billybars" might be a good starting point for making forwards, if that's what you intend to do.

Then you would have to fabricate some linkages.
In the meantime bother a local dealer about some test rides and see what you think about the pegs. I used to use a highway bar exclusively on my 68' TR6 but no longer like the position.
