Here's what I've been using for the past 10 years or so, on several bikes. One tube should last two or three lifetimes.
Unfortunately, some of the directions have been smudged off the back of the tube, but here's how I use it.
- light coat on the pins, wipe off excess.
- light coat where the pads slide in the caliper, wipe off excess.
- very light coating rubbed onto the backing plates of the brake pads.
The last item is the one that eliminates the brake squealing, which is caused by a high frequency vibration (in most cases) between the pad and the caliper piston.
Just keep it off the brake pad lining. That should go without saying
Here's part of the fine print from the tube. "...... a specially formulated synthetic grease containing molybdenuim sulfate graphite, and TEFLON. Keeps critical parts in calipers free for optimum braking efficiency. Helps prevent caliper binding, sticking, vibration, and squeal. Extremely high temperature features make certain this lube will not melt or run off caliper assemblies, self adjusters, and drum brake systems....." And that's where the directions vanish!
If the thought of having any form of grease on or around your brakes disturbs you, ignore this post. I'm not recommending it, only describing what I do.
