New brake pads squealing

Had new rear brake pads fitted. Now I can hear a squealing whistling noise from them when riding but when I apply the back brake it stops.
Should I take the bike back to were the pads were fitted or should the squealing stop after the pads wear in a bit.

Cheers

If the new pads are sintered they will squeal a bit for a while. Assuming your rotor is not warped, and it likely isn't, give them a while to settle in. You can accelerate that a bit by doing a dozen or so quick hard stops in a parking lot.

If they don't settle in fairly soon, tho, one of the calipers could be hanging and may have to be pushed back in by hand.

You could squirt a little brake cleaner between the calipers and the pads in case there is a little grit in there that got picked up in the shop when they were installed, or if you rode through some gravel dust.

Let us know how it turns out.

If the squeal doesn't stop after a reasonable breakin time, remove the caliper and check that the spring clip that holds the pads is NOT touching the rotor.

My rear brake has squealed since day one but only when I apply the brake. I thought it would wear in but it hasn't seemed to improve in 1800 miles. Front brake is fine.
