2008 AI different??
Hi Everybody!
This is my first post to this forum.
I have just purchased an '08 Thruxton:
(being a US '08, it still has clip-ons and carbs)
I've read a few posts here about taking off the Air Injection, and so far, they all mention a vacuum line that runs from the intake manifold to the AI "box." Mine doesn't have this vacuum line. Instead mine has a little black plastic deal with 2 tiny wires going to it. Apparently the vacuum-operated air valves have been replaced by solenoids or sumpin'.
Does anyone know if I need to leave this in the harness to fool the computer, or can I unplug and remove it?
Thanks,
Rico

Peter Jenks is all over that. He knows what to do with the EFI bikes.

Yes, it used to be under the tank. Here is the whole thing with the curious part circled:
Here is a closeup of the contacts on the black plastic... housing (let's call it) with the terminals circled:
I didn't cap anything on the inlet manifolds. This is stock:
Like I said, since this is the US version, it still has carbs - no injection. I will probably give it a try without the... module. They have to know we're going to rip this crap off the bike immediately.
Thanks,
Rico

This antiquated polution control system is getting difficult!! Glad I got an 04!!! That was just a "rip it off" scenario. I dont like wires!!- they scare me!!!! Have to let ALL know. More difficult than the old days!

It looks like they changed it, maybe to be controlled by the forthcoming EFI computer? Maybe in the meantime just wired to be on all the time?
Given that you don't have the EFI computer, I'd guess that you don't have to worry about removing it, but that's just a guess.

thats the same as the AI on my Bonnie. I just unplugged the wires almost immediately after I took delivery of the bike.
I assumed that they were all the same. (typical Australian, dont read the instructions)
didnt make any difference, and have since done about 5,000 Kms
