Dunlop Rear Tyre

Swapping out my rear tyre and I can get a good price on a Dunlop 140/70/17.

Is this tyre okay to run with, would it change anything over the stock size 130/80/17.

Also would this be a better tyre then the Bridgestone Battleaxe 45 in stock size.

Thanks.

Tyre

Got the same size on mine & works super!! I would do both as the mis matching on some tires has some handling differences. I did another BS on the back till its done & then a new set of whatever is the best deal @ the time. Matched sets work better together! The size is rite on tho. Looksbetter & handles a little better as well. Different tho so takes getting used to. I almost dropped the bike in the garage because the height difference made the side stand different angle w/ the larger rear tire when I 1st got it home! Do a matched set or another B45 in the size you said & then a new matched set? Workin good for me!

Cool,

I think I will get the Dunlop 140/70/17 fitted and if I have any handelling issues I'll get the front done in a Dunlop also. Hopefully won't have those issues as front tyre still has plenty of tread left.

Does the Dunlop's get good mileage, I mainly commute and require more mileage over super sticky tyres that wear quickly.

Cheers.

There may be no handling issues...

but, your bike will definately ride better with matching tires.

Dunlop makes several tire models. I've run their GT501 tires in 100-90/19 on front and 150-70/17 on the rear for the past two riding seasons. I like the way these tires tour as well as how they handle on the twisty back roads. I've run these in wet and dry conditions, and they perform well.

You need to make sure that any oversize tire you install on the rear is designed to work with a 3.5" wide Triumph rim. Some aren't, and are intended for a wider rim.

Here's the link to the GT501 section of the Dunlop web site. If that isn't the model you're using, browse around their site and find the model you're intending to use.

Note - I may drop to a narrower rear tire next time, just to see how much quicker the bike will roll from side to side. It should change direction quicker and easier with the narrower tire.

I love Metzlers

On my RS, replacing the Bridgestone with Metzler transformed the handling, and added a large degree of safety in the rain and wet. I've also ridden on frozen roads (black ice - not recommended btw) and stayed upright.

The Bonnie isn't as fast and powerful, so the tires seem to be somewhat less of an issue, but I trust Metzler's....and that calms the little voices in my head:

I was just wondering why you haven't given Perelli Sport Demon's any thought? I had them on my thruxton and can't say enought good things about them.
