tips/tricks for front brake replacement?

This weekend, I'm going to replace my front brake and pads (EBC). Anything I should watch out for during the process? Also, if anyone has torque figures handy, I'd appreciate it.

yes, there is a must

pop the pistons out of the calipers and scrub them clean with brake fluid and a copper chore boy pad, and change the fluid as you re bleed. make sure to clean the surface of the caliper real well where the pistons come out. put smear of of pad lube on the backs. and flip the two square seals over carefully,so you do not nick them, or better yet replace you can get them much cheaper from the honda shop if you take them in they will match them up for you, (honda uses this caliper on some shadows) the kawi dealer might also have them as this caliper is a common for them as well. lube the pad pin with just a little grease as well. Just make sure you have a vacuum bleeder around before you start.

dot 4 fluid
caliper bolts about 26 foot lbs w blue locktite.

if you just push the pistons back in dirt will drag back past the seals and air will get back into the system slowly, when the bike sits and you will not have consistant braking and soft feel, these calipers have no dust shield.

I highly recomend a small butane torch to heat up the disc bolts before removing them.

I had one handy but wanted to try to do it without heat....almost striped the bolt head.

USE HEAT...not a lot...but do use it!

Hedge, will you share your library of useful information with the rest of us, please? I understand that it is mainly comprised of stuff written here at triumphrat.net, but it sounds as if you have done a good job of compiling it. Maybe you could post it in the blog-section. Or do you email it to those that ask? In which case: could you please email it to me?

That is something I can share here on the the Rat. However, I have all these pieces information copied and pasted into Word documents and the documents are in different folders under one master folder called Triumph. I guess I could just zip a bunch of it up and email them out to anyone that is interested. But as you said - it is no mystery or secret knowledge; it is merely anything that I thought could be potentially useful in a future situation.

I'm happy to share that and anything else that is useful . . . unfortunately for you Wisenheimer's I got rid of my porn collection years ago, just nothing out there anymore that is new or unusually interesting that hasn't been seen before, except for that Ugly Monkey's Rear End that I floated around in a few places!

Just PM me if you want something.
