I was in Scotland for a copple of days on my Bonnie T 100 (stock...) with 8 friends (all Triumphs). But today I came back en went directly to the workshop from Aart Nolen to check the progress on the Thruxton. And....??? It was all put together (YES!!) and I was able to make a first ride on the bike, unthought a few thing still has to be done.
My first impression on the Thruxton was that she sounded like a WW II Messerschmidt... The sound makes her very Cop-happy I'm affraid. Than the ride itself, (just a short impression because I will bring you more specific details later), it was really fast, very strong and easy fliyng in the higher revzone. The whole bike changed into a mean machine, no comfort, no easy going feelings, but a seriously IRON feeling it gave. Aart Nolen (he is smaller and not such a heavy weight as me) reached a topspeed of 211 kilometers per hour on a 5 km long (wobbly and narrow) farmer road between the farmes in the backyard of his workshop. (He does all his testing on this road and knowes every bulge and hole in it) After my improvised ride I gave the bike back to him so that he can completes his work. Later on I wil give you a full report on the results and I will try to make a nice sound sample...

OK, finally, a sound byte is soon on its way. Can't wait For those who don't work with metric, 211kph is 131.1mph. That's fast Thruxtonboy! Just watch out for any P51 Mustangs

If you need to lower the volume on the current mufflers, maybe you just need some (additional?) fiberglass, or if you are not packing them with fiberglass, a liner alone will help.

I have been reading so many oil posts this week I am about to choke, but just to finish the week off right, what are you filling your crankcase with? TGIF (Thank God It's Friday)

Well...... the video's are made today. I made four takes for you guys, take 1, 2 and 3 are all preparations for the run, take 4 is the run itself. We found out that the bike is VERY strong, he constantly trided to escape from the ropes and the belt of the Dyno... We also noticed (again) that the bike is so very Rev happy that without the limiter it easely will go over 10.000 Rpm.
Another thing we did today is give this bike a proper name... From now on it will be knowen as 'the Hurricane'. First because of my great affection to Neil Young and his music, second because the bike feeles and sounds like a hurricane. For a moment I thougt about the name 'Spitfire', this because of the UK WW II Warfighters, but the risk of being taken for the soft ''sportscar'' from the sixties decided me to go for Hurricane!
Enjoy the video's!!
