Could be a good idea, but be careful, the light at the end of the chunnel could be the oncoming new 1700 twin !

I think this site is really, really good. The moderators do a great job. Thanks to those that keep the site running.

Thanks also to all those who contribute their knowledge, interest, love of Triumph, positive attitude, and time to make reading the forum interesting.

What's the big deal? Whenever I have mixed feelings 'bout a site, I'm out:that's freedom enough for me.Sharing with others means accepting a certain amount of rules.
Respect to the people who spend their time and energy in keeping this site going-great piece of work!

ride on,Thieu.

that would be the structure as well as the contributing talent...all the structure in the world doesn't mean the talent will roost.

[Dear Modre,

I understand your concern here, but issues like this deserve a little respect. The way to voice this kind of thing is to pm Shawn, and have the people who agree with you send Shawn a pm as well.

Best,
Mare]

I'm not entirely sure what this thread is responding to specifically, but I get the gist. I guess some people have been feeling over-censored and complained.

My penny's worth is that I generally think this site is good. I started off thinking it was a brilliant discovery and the cameraderie that I sometimes felt was a thrill. Then I discovered 'moderation'. I've been 'moderated' twice as I recall and it wasn't nice. The first was in reference to being sardonic and deliberately using the 'F-word' but in disguised form using ***** etc (http://www.triumphrat.net/triumph-tw...triumph-7.html). Apparently that wasn't acceptable and I was threatened with 'an infraction' (to which I almost had a pulmonary infarction). I felt like I was a kid in school being wrapped over the knuckles with a ruler.

The second was when I responded to a post whereby the discussion became very interesting for a lot of contributors (http://www.triumphrat.net/biker-hang...-off-brit.html). I - again in partial jest - made some general comments about the financial and political climate in the UK (as any members of a democracy do when they get together). I was then 'moderated' once again - insighting a riot or some such evil - and the post was then closed.

I think the word 'moderation' is inappropriate in terms of both these responses. I think the words 'censorship' and 'totalitarianism' would be more apt and perhaps reflects the fear-driven, political responses to 'terror' that has the world scrutinising every sideways look these days. The experience has taken the joy and freedom out of contributing to this site and I think the degree of censorship doesn't reflect a contemporary or democratic discourse, particularly within the motorcycling community known for its appreciation of freedom from conformity.

I think this is a valuable site and a testament to its creators' generosity in time and effort as well as the many contributors who create a sense of community, albeit via a computer. I'll keep coming back - perhaps not as frequently now - but would prefer to see the censorship toned down to reflect common sense and in respect of the joys, hopes, frustrations and humour that exists in everyday conversation between people who love motorcyling.

All the best,

power goes to the head and swells the ears shut..resulting in an internal echo.

{Modre, me again. We - all the mods - generally agree on who, what, and where to moderate. It's more of a group process. Best, Mare}

Maybe I was in breach of AUP in November when I posted a message about my seriously ill Daugter in the Bonnie Owners Forum rather than BHO? But I was in an emotional state and I KNEW that my RAT friends would be in the BOF not BHO and that is where I would get support in a difficult time.

I had to laugh at the accusations that this site is too politically correct. I believe a reality check is in order.

In my opinion, this is the most politically incorrect enterprise that I've had the pleasure to be part of in a long time. The right of an individual to start and run something that he owns in a way that he sees fit is almost unheard of in today's politically correct environment.

What usually happens today is a minority of people get offended because the person who owns the business, institution, internet site, etc. isn't doing something they like. If they wine long enough, presenting distorted views of their constitutional rights. They eventually get the attention of the media and unscrupulous lawyers who make it so unpleasant for the person who is creating a product or service that he or she is driven to change the product or service or worse, go out of business.

Thank you all who are trying to force Shawn to change something he owns. You can now join the ranks of those who make me accept Satanism as a legitimate religion and make me pay for the warning labels so some idiot doesn't stand on top of a ladder. How dare Shawn make decisions without consulting all of us!

For those of you who are making it a first ammendment issue to to post women's pictures on a motorcycle website please note. Internet porn is a few keystrokes away. Go there and have fun. No, instead you'd rather disregard my right to have a site I can read at work during my lunch hour and in front of my kids. And I loved the rationale that the photos weren't any worse than what you see on TV. Now we are asked to hold the crap on Television as the benchmark for what is appropriate and in good taste.

A few last points. I'd like the dude who says that a majority of people here agree that the site's policies are messed up present some statistics.

And I'd like to repeat my question asking if there was ever a topic-ABOUT MOTORCYCLES- that was handled poorly by the administrators of the site.

I do love this site, and one could say that I am almost as addicted to this site as much as my Bonnie. But lately it has been alittle over the top. I think it is still the best resource for us out there, more so then any manual as here you can ask questions and talk to people and get help. A lot of things in the books are still way over my head, and many members here have taken the time to help me out and explain this so I could understnad and complete things that I would never have even tried. It is upsetting that I see less of these people on here (unknown why and not asking questions either). We still have many great people on here so don't get me wrong, but instead of growing it feels like replacing lately and that is what concerns me. I will not blame anyone, because I believe everyones heart is in the good place... and we all have good taste in bikes. But I think that some need to take this into consideration more offen.
