Cheap Solution to Side Cover Screws

As you all know the stock side cover screws on the bonnie's are a royal pain. I saw the thumbscrews on N/B and made me think?? The thing that drove me nuts was spending 5 minutes getting the hole in the cover to line up with the threaded bracket to start the threads in the screw straight. Here is my solution for what it's worth. I bought 2 ea. internal thread knurled thumbscrews from McMaster-Carr. They are an industrial widget dealer. The McMaster-Carr part # is 60765K322, $2.86 ea at a total of $10.47 with shipping. I installed an M6 x 1 threaded rod with a jam nut in the bracket on the frame. Start long and cut to the length that works. I really liked this solution cause now I put the cover over the pins on top then just push the cover on the the stud which lines everything up. It's now a 15 second job. If you want to try it google McMaster-Carr and search the part #.

Rodburner,
Looks like you got a whole nother solution going on there. I hope that project wasn't just to get rid of the cover screws. Post some pics when you get that 1 piece seat & cover done.

The ones DB has made up do away with the constant jiggling & cursing to get the holes lined up tho!

Thanks for the tip DB, I have a McMaster Carr account too!!

Oops. I read what Derby Boy did but wasn't really reading it. He had already seen the NB screws. Then he put studs in first. Then the thumb screws. I may have to try this. Bob.

Yeah it's fun being an armchair/backyard engineer. Plus it helps that I'm really cheap.
