I don't think the front is going to last to long either. I'm doing by best.
My first test ride went well. Understeer lessened. Noticeably quicker turn in, Found myself on the inside of the turn too early a few times. That's a timing issue. Just feeling it out for now.


Re bar swap: "The issue with the Thruxton is not the bars. It is the space. It needs to be a remote fluid container because the of the clip ons,
The brake will hit the guages."
What I meant was that it won't work as a direct swap.

Philmecavity might be on to something though.

As far as the brakes being okay at first & then getting spongy, it does sound like air is getting into the system. The proper way to bleed brakes is to put a hose on the bleeder & put the other end down into a glass jar with brake fluid in it. That way it can't pull air back in & also you can see if there really IS air in the system. If there are air bubbles later after the brakes get spongy again, then air is getting it. If it wasn't doing it before then it has to be getting in through the new caliper piston seals as they return to their rest position. They wouldn't leak under pressure but may let air under "off pressure" position. Yes a smaller piston will develop more pressure & move less fluid. Did you put Dot 5 back in?

I got my new Rocket 3 master cylinder installed and bled last night. Pretty straighforward install, except one of the screws started cross-threading on me and wouldn't thread right after that. Of course I gorilla-fisted it in, then fubar'd the threads. Luckily I had a metric tap and die set handy and I found the correct tap and cleaned the threads up and it went right in. One of those stupid things that should take 3 seconds to screw in and it took 30 minutes instead...after fidding with the throttle cables, and getting the wiring stuffed back in I bled the brakes.

When I bled the brakes before with the bonnie (stock) MC and the SV calipers it took forever to bleed. The stock MC just could not move much brake fluid. It literally took me a couple of hours over several days (more time than it took me to rebuild the motor from the crank up) to get the brakes bled, and they still were mushy and not safe. With the Rocket 3 master cylinder it was immediately evident how much more brake fluid it moved. It only took me about 15 minutes to bleed the brakes completely (both sides, as I have dual discs up front now). This thing is FIRM! The force required at the lever is more than stock, you hafta grab it a little harder, but the thing BITES on the brake pads.

If anyone has upgraded to the 6 pot caliper I think the R3 MC is a must-have.

Sweat, I have the 6 pot calibur. I just don't think there is enought room for the rocket 3 MC on a thrux with the clip ons and the tack sitting right there. That is why I was thinking about a brembo.

Right Mar, I meant for bonnies, I think we'd already decided this was a bonnie-mod only a few posts above. a 14mm master cylinder should do the trick though, so long as it fits.

Mike; I used a Speed Triple master cylinder with the 6 pot caliper in my bike.
It is also 14 mm sleeve bore like the R3 and works great as well.
It is a bolt on replacement for the stock 11 mm sleeve bore Thruxton master cylinder.

Thanks i will look at that one. I was looking at the Brembo that is used on the 996. It is 16mm. I am wondering if that is too big.

With the 14 mmm MC you can do stoppies at will.
With a 16 mm... figure it out.

Bonnie 1000 thanks for the tip. I tried to install a brembo mc from a 996 and the brake light was not going to be an easy fix. So I got the mc from a Speed triple. WOW what a difference.
i suspect the 16mm from the 996 mc would have been too big. the 14mm is probably just right.
