I have had them on my Bonnie for 6,000 miles and they have not gotten any louder. Your throttle regulates the sound you want to present to the public. I run mine without the rear baffles. They (the baffles) can be put in and taken out very easily. Leave them in while using the bike for work and take them out when playing

Something must have happened to mine cos they extremely loud. I would never describe the sound of my bike as mellow at any rev level! Then again I have no airbox and other internal mods, might just be the added noise of the intake, considering that acceleration is so addictive!

I really can't tell that mine have gotten any louder in 18000 miles. The intake honk doesn't come on till about 5000 rpm, so if you are hearing it, you're on the throttle pretty good and the Togas are a talkin.

science or fiction?

I keep reading posts where people claim the sound of their pipes change with age. I need persuading that this is objectively true, and not just a subjective feeling. What could possibly happen inside an exhaust pipe, other than corrosion perforating the walls or baffles and causing blowing, to make a pipe louder? We're talking about pipes without internal baffles, aren't we?
I have a sneaking feeling that the "pipes have got louder" claim is on the same grounds as my own claims in life; that over the last five years I have become funnier, more attractive to women, and seem to hold my drink better.

The steel, or mineral, wool lagging used as damping material gets compressed or blown out.

Hey buelly--check out this video on YouTube (and a couple of others there):

It's a pretty accurate read--looks like this is with baffles out. Not a whole lot of difference in sound between baffles in and out. Listening to it makes me feel better about winter....

I run the D&Ds

which are louder and leave in the wee hours often, I do not start the bike pointed toward the neighbors house just roll it into the street and start it. and keep the revs down till I am down the block and all is ok.
