Drop oil for valves?
Do you have to drop the oil when the right side cover has to come off (to turn the alternator nut which in turn spins the camshafts).
I am pre-reading my manual and it says so (but that is to take the alternator out?)
I am going to go at it tomorrow.
Thanks in advance

I've had the right covers off both of my bikes to adjust the sensor coil gap and neither one lost more than a tablespoon of oil, mostly because they were on the side stand at the time. You will dump that one spoonful so a catch rag is recommended and you're going to need a new gasket. A couple of dabs of RTV is very helpful when you reassemble the cover to keep the alternator and sensor grommets in place, and, the alternator magnet is stronger than you might think so hang on to that cover.

RTV is a silicon sealant that comes in a lot of flavors but I recommend the Hi-Temp red for motor covers and silencer joints. Easily found at your local auto parts store.

I've done 3 adjustments/checks by using the back tire with the bike in gear, on a lift, to rotate the motor assembly(pull the plugs) unless you are REALLY STRONG, no side cover removal needed.

I'll bet you could even do it on a center stand that way, too. Much easier than yanking the side cover.

You know it's kinda funny
I just finished cleaning up the house (work shifts so lots of time to clean) and I was thinking "hey why dont I just spin up the rear tire and avoid the whole side cover thing". I come back to Rat.net after mad vacuuming and voila Thrux has beaten me to the punch!
Thanks guys I am going into the garage to check those valves now.

+4 (times using 5th gear and centerstand to turn the engine over).

Well
It'll have to wait. I cant get the **** cam cover off. I pulled the cover bolts but the seals stayed in. I didnt want to poke around with a screwdriver. I also tapped with a rubber mallet and no play. The bike has 33k on it and I bet the valves have never been looked at!
Anyone else have this issue?
