'01 clutch chatter advise, any one who has had this fixed I need advise

I need a little help with an '01 with the old style clutch, if you had triumph help you out with this one, let me know who you talked to. and how they helped. I have an '01 with terrible chatter it has 7k on it and has gotten a lot worse, It started as a little slip at 1.5k. We had it apart and it is the narrow bearing.

I bought an 01 Bonne this summer from a dealer, and there the ones thats told me about the clutch chatter. There is a recall bulletin on it that any knowlegable Triumph dealer should know about. Call the nearest dealer and inquire. Its a simple fix. If your dealer gives you the run around, call triumph in GA. Or call them 1st to get the bulletin reference number, then call the dealer.

Hope this helps,
Dave-

You should be able to get the service bulletin, if there is one, on the Triumph web site. I think that you have to key in your VIN.

Dave
this is the first I've heard of a recall bulletin for the clutch chatter.
Have you looked in to this for yours.
I only get the chatter when she is real hot and in slow traffic.
I will be pulling the clutch apart so if there is a fix I want to know about it.
I asked over at Swansea triumph a few years ago and they did know any thing about a fix.
Bill

Yes, I forgot about that I did check for any recalls on the triumph site
and it came up with nothing on my 01 Bonnie.

My riding buddy, Grebmrof, ordered his Bonnie even before they hit the US dealer floors, and took delivery in early 2001. His bike developed the infamous clutch 'jutter' very early on. I asked Greb to describe what Triumph did to fix the problem back in 2001. Here's his response:

.......................That was a clutch judder/clatter which was experienced
only with the very early '01's. I think it involved several
parts - one being the lever where the clutch cable
attaches and actuates the clutch, the basket itself
and another part. They (Triumph) made me go through three steps
attempting to resolve the problem - I think later they
might have made up a tech bulletin that resolved the
issue in one fell swoop. The other tech problem was
with an oil seal or separator at the left end of the
crank - it was a poorly made/designed part and the
symptom was dumping oil through a pressure relief
valve and into the airbox - making a big mess.

Hope that helps...both issues were reasonably quickly
addressed under warranty........................

Hope this helps you describe the problem to your dealer.

Bob

FWIW, I had clutch chatter prior to installing barnett green springs. It seemed the extra grip eliminated it. Try your dealer first and if it doesn't pan out, try the springs...they are cheap and it's an easy install.

Bill,

When I looked at my Bonne at the dealer, I wanted to take it for a test ride and they told me it had a problem w/ the clutch and were hesitant. I said I didnt mind and signed a waiver, i could feel the clutch problem in 2nd and up, they already ordered the part. They installed it for free and then I took delivery. There was something to do w/ certain models from 2001 which info was gained from the vin. I know mine was a candain model. Not sure if all 2001's were affected or if the later models w/in 2001 had the problem fixed.

Bill, there is no recall bulletin. There is a service bulletin, which is a different thing. And even then, it's not fully reliable - my 2001 has the problem, but it falls outside the numbers covered by the bulletin. I used Barnett green springs to eliminate the problem. It hasn't solved it completely, but it's a lot better than it was.

Your description of the problem mirrors mine - only in first and second gear in traffic once the bike has really warmed up.
