Thruxton camchain noise?

I have just heard about this site so hi to you all from Perth, Western Australia. I have recently bought an `04 Thruxton and I love it to bits, just need to save some money to do all the mods I would like to do.
I can hear a noise coming from the motor as it reaches 3000rpm, stays there until 3500 and then diminishes. I suspect the cam chain. Is there anyone out there who has experienced similar? Are there any camchain issues with these motors? It has travelled 15000 kms. Can anyone help?

The twin motors do have a variety of "George Jetson" whirring and clicking noises from the valve train. Probably nothing to worry about - but then its hard to say for sure without actually being there! Do you have a local dealer near by - or another Bonnie owner you could compare to?? I have 3 bikes with nearly 45,000 miles on em with no mechanical problems to date. I have only heard of 1 cam chain issue - but that was an assembly error. Bikes seem to be reliable as a rock.

backlash

The cam gears have an anti-backlash setup that could possibly create what you are describing if the cams have been out for valve adjustments, and reinstalled without the special pins needed to keep things together properly.....Good luck....Robert

Mine went away as soon as I installed a louder exhaust; I'm not sure why.

If you run it on 3 parts Premium and 1 part Swan Lager the noise goes away.

Its only cause the standard intake and exhuast is so muffled that you can hear those noises.

G'Day sgiles, I'm a Thruxton rider in Perth also so HI. If you're concerned about the noise you could take it in to JCS Motorcycles ( Best Triumph dealer in Perth ) and have them listen to your bike and advise you if it sounds OK. They are located on Great Eastern Hwy just before the on ramps for the Farmer Freeway..... might see you around...
