Detailed Emgo's photos
I just received my 17" Shorty Emgo's yesterday but I am still waiting on my pipe adapters, K&N, 125 jets and shims from BellaCorse. I have my Polaris bell mouth waiting and collecting dust also. Looks like I'll have to fab some mounts for the pipes but that should not be too hard. Pipes seem to be made OK for $50 a piece and they are MUCH lighter than stock and they look like they will be loud! Yay! I think I have all my ducks in a row to install this stuff. Am I missing anything?

I'm going to keep all the stuffing in there and maybe even add some heavier material from a dirt bike shop. I like loud but LOUD is too loud!

That "stuffing" will be blown out before 30 minutes is up. I have the same ones on my Thrux. I went through a lot of fiberglass and time, repacking and rewrapping, until I figured out the secret to using steel wool rather than the fiberglass.
My Emgo's have a annoying rattle at certain speeds. I am still trying to figure out where it is coming from.
I love the sound of them and the looks.

Mr, Badda Bing,
I was looking at the way they are constructed and was thinking of using some high temp silicone around both end of the baffle before I slide it into the housing and using the same stuff on the screws. Steel wool eh? I'll have to try that.

I have a 2Bros carbon fiber canister on my SV650, it came packed with fairly coarse (00) steel wool wrapped right against the perforated tube, with fiberglass wrapped over top of the steel wool. I think the 'glass is better at diffusing the high-pitched sounds, while the 'wool gives the stuffing longer life.
As far as running without any wrap, it'll be loud, true. But don't forget that the major function of the wrap is to damp out the higher-pitched part of the exhaust note, getting rid of the raspiness and leaving the deeper, growlier part of the exhaust note.

I have heard of some replacing the packing with dirt bike packing. Was thinking about doing the same, and here is what I was looking into http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com...-Packing-.aspx
I just received my new 17" shorties as well, and I agree with the possibility of a little high temp RTV at the baffles. Can definitly see where it could start to rattle.
