problem with motorcycle jack

It seems that the actual jack part of my Sears Motorcycle jack has failed. I can pump/lift it up but the pressure only builds at the very bottom of the motion. It was an overnight thing, and I hadn't done anything to the jack itself.

Anyone ever have one of these fail? Seems like a simple bottle jack. I called Sears and of course got 2 idiots, one informed me "they don't sell motorcycle parts" and the manager informed me "I don't know that much about tools." I kind of feel like Hank Hill buying plumbing elbows at the Megalow Mart...

Sweat,

Maybe try the info in this thread so you can just order the jack or part of the jack.

I wonder if maybe, like my Jet brand left, it's been leaking a bit of hydraulic fluid? Bottle jack hydraulic fluid is available at the local auto parts store, it's very common. First, you pull the rubber bung in the side, then turn it upside down and fill til it's level with the opening. Back upright, give it twenty pumps or so to purge the air and refit the bung. Good to go.

bike jack

Check the oil level in the bottle jack,it sounds like it's low. you can use standard hydraulic oil or ATF trans fluid. There should be a rubber plug in the side of the bottle jack for filling. I hope this helps.

I had the exact same problem with a Sears bike jack after only about a year of very occasional use. It probably had weight on it fewer than 20 times. Finally gave it away since I could not trust it. Rubbish.

First two places that I would check would be the seal, and then many of them have a type of bleed off valve that when open won't let any hydraulic pressure build.

Never trust your bike on the hydraulic lift alone, use the locking thing to secure it.
Yeah your fuid level is probably low. If it's hosed beyond that and you can't find a seal, it's just a bottle jack you can find at auto parts/ harbor freight etc.
