Spark Plug Wires
Hey I need some new plug wires, and was looking at the Nology (why do they have to come in bright colors?) and the "premium" stainless wires from New Bonneville, links below:
http://www.newbonneville.com/html/nology_hotwires.html
http://www.newbonneville.com/html/pr...ion_wires.html
Is there much of a difference? I have a Nology coil and just got the iridium plugs. I think my wires are weak, and may have been water logged at some point. The price difference is negligible.
Thanks
-Ben

I'd look at cost and get whatever is cheap but still good quality. In other words, if nology are cheaper than stock fine, other wise i'd buy stock. I bought nology coild and wires and there was zero difference in any way with the nology wires. i put the stock wires back on because one of the nology ends came off when i removed them to do some work. So instead of fixing it i threw the stock wires back because i never seemed to feel any difference. Sure enough i felt zero difference when putting the stock wires back. I also read that nologys break down in time because of the shielding which causes a small charge thru the rubber that degrades it over time. don't know how true that is, but since there was no change in performance i just stuck with the stockers. i may throw the nologys back on when i get a chance and see if i still feel no difference out of curiosity, but so far they seem like a scam to me.

Stock NGK are a bit cheaper. ~$50

You can always spraypaint the base of the wire that holds the plug. My stock red ones are now flat black and look much better.

Hey Ben-get the Nology or the German ones made of NIROSTA!!! Anything made from that is really good stuff. I use the Nology wires and super coils and the iridium hot spark plugs-it does'nt hurt to get the best stuff you can buy. Stock stuff is usually made to a price point and it is usually lower quality than some of the aftermarket products.

I put the premium wires and NGK plugs on the Bonnie. Engine fires up right away and less throttle lag. Idles better, too. This is compared to stock wires and plugs that badly needed changing.

Real or imagined?
Ben--There are past posts regarding the pros and cons of the Nology wires and coils (and irridium plugs) on this forum. Suggest you do a search and check them out. It's a hot-button issue here as some have seen (imagined?) performance gains while others swear there's no difference. I have all three and definitely noticed a difference, although they all went on my '06 T100 at the same time, so it's impossible to determine which was responsible for the improvements. Without a dyno test in hand, the debate will continue....

I have read some posts about the wires, plugs, coils, etc. A friend argues that if a 4 cylinder Honda 600 can do 13k with the same kind of coils wires plugs why would my Bonnie need any better. I just have good reason to believe my wires are compromised, and I already have the plugs and coil.
Mostly I was wondering if there is much of a difference or advantage between Nology wires and the Nirosta wires, as these 2 are on my shopping list.
I am from the old school of thought using metal core no resistor wires from dealing with my Meriden Triumphs so I know very little about modern ignition (I'm a points Fan)
I know these small performance gains can be difficult to nail down and I'm not expecting huge changes, but better starting etc.
cheers
-Ben
