running on one cylinder
hey.....started her up after only being down for a month and she's only firing on one cylinder. Every once in a while the left (as I sit) will catch then die out again. it doesn't sound serious, but any quick fix ideas before I start to lose hair over it? Tanks full, but it has been cold as hell around here and it's a really really wet day but warmer..

2 quick things
1 drain the carbs, there is a small drain screw on each carb, et the bottom of the bowl facing you. Drain enough gas to have done some rinsing, at least a cup or 2 per carb, esp the problem side.
2 check the plugs. You will need an 18mm spark plug socket, Sears has a nice one or you can look around but they are not very common sockets. you could also grind down the outside of a 18mm deep well socket.

Had this problem with my '04, running intermittently on one cylinder while the choke was engaged. Turned out to be a clogged enrichening circuit. Pulled the carbs and gave 'em a good going over with spray-type carb cleaner, end of problem!

I had a clogged jet on mine. My right cylinder would fire only upon putting a load on the engine.

Another possibility
If all that does not help then it is a blown diaphragm in the air injection valve which is causing that cylinder to go lean....
Pull off the vacuum hose on the left carb spigot close to the head and suck on it ,,,, if you can pull a vacuum then the valve is aok, but if air comes through then the diaphragm is shot....
Cold weather and ethanol in the gas make for rubber parts that are prone to splitting....
Good luck with it !

always start with the simlest thing first it can be many things as the guys have said ,but dont go through all the other stuff until you have cahnged your plugs then work back from there.

Switch the plugs you have if opposite cylinder misfires, it's the plug. Just a quick check.
