1/4 mile ET and MPH

Well, Anybody run their bonnies at the drags yet? I know that they aren't drag racers but just curious how they compare to the old school bikes in the 1/4 mile.

Not quite an "outta the crate" Bonnie in the video... that one IS a drag racer.

Maybe this'll answer your question, especially if you're riding a 790cc.

.................... in magazine tests, a box-stock 883 Sportster turned in a quarter mile time of 14.2 seconds at 91.2 mph. (Almost all Sportsters on the street have the benefit, at the minimum, of Screaming Eagle mufflers, air cleaner and carb kits, and will be quicker than this.) The W650 ran the quarter mile in 14.05 seconds at 93.24 mph. The Bonneville turned a 1/4 mile time of 13.83 sec. at 95.34 mph, a bit quicker than the other two. In reality, the typical Bonneville and 883 Sportster will both probably out drag the W650 on the street, because they will be running low restriction exhaust systems and carburetor kits. It is a shame that Kawasaki has not made similar bolt-on performance enhancements available for the W650.

My lightly mod'ed 2001 W650 ran a 13.61 @ 97.17. It has a modified airbox - equivalent to removing the shelf and drilling some holes in the Bonnies, and it has a good set of "Fishpipes" built by Armours in UK - they look and sound like the old Burgess pipes & mufflers on my older Triumphs. Minor carb changes too.

I have not run either of the '66 Bonnies at the drags, but my stock '68 Bonneville has a lot of "green lights" - the best time was a 13.8X (I forget) @94 something. The old bikes are about 100# lighter than our T100s and accelerate very quickly from a stoplight grand prix.

My '69 Trident ran an 11.35@114 mph just before the rod went through the case...

I think that guy in Florida with the NO2 1200 kitted bike (I forget his handle, sorry) has run his on a strip. But only an 1/8th of a mile track, as that's all available locally.
That would be the right bike to set some good times on though.

I would guess a 904 or 989 bonnie with 85 to 90 rwhp should do atlest low 12s to 11s.
I hope to find out this summer.Just got my stroker kit yesterday. Now maybe lots of trips to the dealer to get all the bearings and gaskets and such i might get it together. Its a pain every part of our motors has to be ordered one by one not even gaskets come in a kit.

Naah Scratcher, I haven't ran it yet. I would like to, but now it's turning cool and the holiday season has me too busy anyway. I would have to try a 41T sprocket before I even think about the track.

Mike..give me a shout if you need some help or have a question.
