shifting speeds

Here's an interesting one.....

Can anyone tell me where the shift points (ie redline) would be on the speedometer?
Since I won't likely get a tach conversion kit for a while, what I'd like to do is to mark on the speedo with a little dot of white-out, just where, or at what mph i should be shifting up to each gear from first to fifth......ie/ 40 mph in first, 65mph in second...etc etc....
I've been looking everywhere for that info, found some on the 02 bonnies but nothing yet on the 07 which i have.
Any help or suggestions would be greatfully appreciated....
Thanks...
bill

I rarely use my tach. I hear the pipes and just feel for it.

If you have the 2002 data, this may help.

As far as I know, the only difference in stock 2002 and 2007 drive ratios is in the final drive, with an 18 tooth countershaft sprocket vs a 17 tooth. I believe the primary and 1 thru 5 gear ratios are the same.

I think this math works:
2002 final drive: 2.53:1
2007 final drive: 2.38:1
2.53/2.38 = 1.06 or approx 6 % difference.

In other words, the 2002 will be revving approx 6% higher at the same road speed with stock gearing.

Not sure if you'd need to run this for every gear ratio, or if this covers it for all ratios. Think it does.

Aproximate redline (7000rpm)

I tested this on my 2006 Bonnie that has TORs, rejet, and K&N, no snorkel. I tried to keep track of what speed I shifted when the tach hit 7000 rpms:

1st - 50
2nd -70
3rd - 85
4th - 95

That is what my speedometer showed but it is about 5mph optimistic, so actual speed would be about 5mph less than what I listed. Also, I didn't bounce the rev limiter so pushing it as far as you could go would result in slightly higher speeds.

You are shifting at 7K? On what model 865 or 790c? Was this just a test?

I shift at about 4500 - 5000 RPM on an 865 Bonnnie.

I don't shift at 7K usually, only ocassionally when I jump on it. I usually don't go past 5K or so during normal riding...
