nissin radial master cylinder

I picked up a nissin radial master cylinder for the Thruxton but upon installation...............well it just will not fit. I was made for a Suzuki GSX-R 1000. I was looking for a little stronger braking but alas it was not to be. The throttle cables would not clear and I would of had to grind some material off the handle bar in order for it to fit. But on a good note I received my AI deletion kit from Bella Corsa and it was a breeze to install. I could not believe the pile of parts that came off!

I've been thinking about how I can improve the front brake on my Scrambler. It's really quite poor.

Any thoughts out there?

I replaced my disk with one from 'metal gear' and fitted a braided metal brake line and sintered metal pads. This improved the brakes substantially, still not a match for a good twin disk set up but much better than stock.

I've fitted EBC HH pads, an EBC floating disc and a Goodridge stainless line (the stock is SS by the way, but disguised by a black plastic wrap) to the front end of my T100 and they were all an improvement. But, the only thing that really gave me what I was looking for was a Beringer four piston caliper. They're nicely made bits of kit but cost £250 in the UK. All in all, I think they're worth the cash if you're used to something like a Ducati with a pair of four piston Brembos up front and find the Bonneville front brake a bit weak. By the way, most people who've tried both, think the larger floating disc and different master cylinder of the Thruxton make it's front brake feel better than that of the Standard and T100. I don't know about the Scrambler as it seems to be a hybrid with the Standard's smaller (non-floating) disc and the Thrux's master cylinder.

Ron,
what is the pad set up like on the pretecks? are they like most 6 pot in that they have 6pads?
How much for the unit? Pad types?

For those looking to improve braking but don't want to pony up for high $ brakes

You can use a Rocket3 master cyclinder (both are 1" bars). It's a direct swap $240.
14mm instead on 10mm.

Cost £280.00 (including UK Value Added Tax)for the caliper, stainless steel brake line, stainless steel bango's and EBH HH sintered pads.

Two pads fitted, not 6.

How does a different master cylinder improve braking?

I'm no expert but radial mounted master cylinder offers less flex and better feel and leverage. Also depends on the piston size and is must match your brake caliper. I had the nissin mounted on my ZRX1200R with twin six pot calipers and steel lines but the piston in the master cylinder was set up for a bike with 4 piston calipers. I took the radial mount off and the stock lever feels better with the steel lines on the ZRX. I tried to mount it on the Thruxton because due to the better leverage I was hoping to get stronger braking (I have a bad habit of using only two fingers) but it would not fit. Back to stock on both bikes and an unused nissin radial master cylinder on my bench.

vanson, any pics that you want to share to see if "we" can figure out a way to make it work? I am very interested in this endeavor.
