2001Bonneville Tach retrofit?....

The original '01 Bonny was available only without a tach...wasn't an option either at least at time of introduction. Does the optional tach accessory kit bolt right up and plug right in to a '01 Bonnie? If so, where is the best place to purchase such a tach kit in the US?...perhaps on line if possible.

Lastly, were there any noteable improvements made to the Bonneville from
'01 to say '07? Yes engine displacement grew on T-100 examples but some are ambivalent about the power difference due to the difference in cam timing. Any other noteworthy improvements over these years?

Many Thanks,
George

The '07 Bonnies all went to an 865 motor.

I'm thinking about adding a tach to mine as well and would be interested on everyone's thoughts. I read one post which stated you could add an aftermarket tach for $50.

The Triumph tach kit was first available in 2002 when the T-100 first came out as a Centennial model. It should plug straight in, but comes with an extra lead to connect to the ignitor which is under the seat. Instructions are fairly clear, and it's not too difficult to do.

As I'm in the UK, I can't recommend a dealer that you can get to, but I'm sure someone will be able to help out on this.

IMHO the 2001 model was the best version, and Triumph themselves have not made any real improvements. But then I would say that!

One problem which may occur with a 2001 is that some of the early bolts which hold the inlet manifolds to the head where supplied a couple of mm long, and bottomed out in their holes before they made a proper seal. So if you have some lean problems on yours this is something to check out.

There are any number of aftermarket tachs out there. There is a nice version from LSL, available from Jack Lilley amongst others, but it's a bit expense.

I brought a cheaper version in 2001 which has a neat bracket which attaches below the bottom handlebar clamp and sits over the chrome fork nut. This was a bit cheaper, but need wiring in. It's for sale if you interested and in the UK.

Here is one of the $50.00 dollar ones on my 2001 bonnie.
It works great and a whole lot better then $360.00

I can give you more info on the wiring when I get home from work.

Hey Biker7, fitting the Triumph tach kit to a 2001 isn't too hard, and the instructions are clear and simple. Just make sure you push the wire that goes under the tank well and truly into the igniter with a sharp tool of some sort (like a nail, maybe); once it makes contact the tach works fine - cheers Pat

i'd love info on how you did that (where you sourced the tach, wiring, etc). i'll be ****ed if i'm gonna spend $360 on a T-100 tach kit.

for those that have installed a D9 bracket. . . how much was the whole deal including mini-gauges?

Billy,

Maybe you could put the instructions, links and photos up on the Blog/Mods forum.

Perhaps under ZAP on page two.
