Long legged riders opinions wanted...
Does anybody know off the top how much farther back Thruxton rear set foot controls are placed compared to a std. Bonny? Also, is there a discernible vertical distance change between the two foot control positions as well? The reason I ask is that of ergos with my 34" inseam. For those with long legs that have ridden each bike, do your legs in particular feel more comfortable with a Thruxton's foot controls?...as it is possible the linear distance from top of seat cushion to control placement maybe a bit longer on the Thrux...because the restraining aspect of foot control position is generally height for maximum lean angle. I will add that for '08 apparently Triumph has decided to raise the handlebar and place conventional bars on their Thrux model no doubt due to general preference for a higher handlebar. Most know that foot control placement melds with handlebar height i.e. when a rider's torso rotates forward with a lower handlebar, the natural ergonomic byproduct is to rotate feet more rearward and hence the control placement on a Thruxton. For those with long legs that may have experimented a bit, is the std Bonny at the end of the day still the most comfortable for long legged riders who prefer a higher handlebar...even with more mid control placement and presume a slightly less acute knee angle versus the Trux?
Or, by contrast, would say a Trux be the best for long inseam riders with rearward control placement in conjunction with a slightly higher handlebar?
Thanks for any advice,
George

FWIW, I'm 6'2 and also have a 34" inseam and ride a Bonne. I dont have a problem w/ it and Ive had Hondas for 20 yrs. I've recently added a solo seat but due to winter being here, only took it out for 20 min.
I can go about 2hrs w/ occasional leg stretchs while riding. Not sure if the Thruxton would be more or less comfortable as putting your legs behind you while riding takes a bit to get use to.
Theres a guy on here who makes a peg-lowering kit of 2".
Luckily the Bonnes are smooth rides and relatively comfortable so the legs dont suffer as much as other bikes.
Ride one for about 60 miles if you can and that should be a good gauge.

I also have a 34" inseam, and find the Thrux quite comfortable. I can ride all day without cramping or problems with my legs, though my shoulders tend to stiffen and tire after a few hours. But, to be fair, my shoulders also ache after several hours driving my car.
I haven't measured the difference in foot peg placement, but I'd estimate the Thruxton is around 1" back and 2" up compared to the Bonnie.
For comparison, on my Thruxton, with slightly higher bars:

Thank you Tabletop for the pic comparison and your response. Interesting that there is such a foot peg height difference between the two respective bikes. Guess the priority on the Thruxton is lean angle to increase peg height so dramatically. One further note is...moving the pegs rearward lowers your knee height on your Thrux compared to the Bonny rider...even with your long inseam.
Knee position affects pelvis rotation which for me makes all the difference in back comfort on long rides....why for example forward controls on cruisers don't work for me...my pelvis naturally wants to rotate rearward promoting a slouched riding position. Rotating feet rearward as in the Thrux riding position promotes the pelvis to rotate in the same direction which in turn induces a more natural back arch.
Thanks again,
George

I have a 33" inseam, Modre's 2" lowering brackets and NewBonneville billybars.
My 07 bonnie black fits perfectly.

I'm 6'1" with a 32 inseam. I am also 64 and not as flexible as I once was. I was getting sore legs and cramps on my Bonnie, that is, till I added Modre's peg lowering kit. It is an enormous improvement and the bike is now very comfortable.

thanks smac and geolpilot for the endorsement...straight from the horses mouth.
I do have the solution for long legs and age pain with these peg lowering sets...I'm not going to promote...but rather just let the guys who have already received sets express their impressions...if it makes sense for others, I have more sets ready to go.
making a list...checking it twice
gonna find out who's naughty or nice...

Looks nice Modre and thanks guys for your input. For those that have Modre's foot peg lowering pieces, is lean angle of the bike compromised to any discernible extent?...i.e. do you guys notice a greater tendency to scrape pegs when riding in a spirted manner?
Many Thanks,
George

I don't ride that hard, is it is not important to me. The comfort is. However, I live on the Texas Coast where roads are straight and the turns so infrequent that I have to get a riding book out to relearn how to turn when it eventually happens.

Pegs
I dont know if you would be comfortable w/ the riding position w/ the Thrux pegs? 33" here & i just stand up 1 & again. Can put feet on the rear pegs or get hwy pegs? I like the feel when riding. Can (1 up) slide back for a fifferent feel ? I think the pegs where they are are a big help when there is a HUGE un seen pothole come up or what ever back jolting (bad back here!) hump in the road turns up? I am only 5'10" & the bike is big to me sorta? A person 6'4" will feel like its a dirt bike - a lot more manuverable @ that height. Enjoy the handling!!! Thats where its at w/ the Bonne. Get a BA or SM if you want a larger bike w/ control FWD. Wont handle near the Bonne, but will ride nice on opwen road & give more leg room. I went to look @ the BA & realizede I wanted a sports car- not a cruiser. So things change? Lowering kit looks good- Id watch the clearance if you like the twisties like I do!!
