Keihin Carb Question

Ok - you got your:
- main jets and needles
- pilot jets and adjusting screws
Do our carbs have removable starter circuit jets? Or is the starter circuit simply drilled into the aluminum, with no removable jets? I've had the carbs off and disassembled, but didn't look for the starting circuit. The reason I ask is I found an old Delphi posting that indicated there were interchangable jets in the starting circuit ..... maybe the author confused them with the pilots?

Hi Bob
I have been looking into our carbs since the last post about the choke
Here is a great link about our carbs. I found it very informative.
It looks like there is a starter jet but it looks like it pressed in and not removable ???

Thanks, Bill - good article. The photo of the float chamber with bowl removed definitely shows the starter jet, but like you said, it may be pressed into place. It bothers me that my bike is such a hard starter when cold compared to some others on this site. It makes me wonder if the time she spent on the dealer's floor without being ridden could have allowed the starting circuit to gum up with gasoline crud, causing the hard cold weather starting. Dealer could have been sloppy about draining or at least stabilizing the fuel (you just know they didn't!)

Maybe the starting circuit in general is prone to gumming up, since I barely use it in warm weather at all, especially since I've switched to slightly larger pilots and mains.

Very possible it could be clogged.
It looks like when you pull the choke it opens up the starter jet to allow
more fuel in a richer mix for starting.
I guess the only way of knowing is to pull the carbs apart and blast some
carb cleaner and or some compressed air through the jet??
I know these Bonnie's are cold blooded and they can use all the help
the can get to start in the cold weather.
Good luck
Bill
