Sound to worry about???
The last couple of times I've ridden my bike I've noticed a distinctive whirring sound coming from what appears to be the front part of the bike. Not sure if this is new, as I might have just not noticed it before (this is my first Bonnie and I'm pretty much a new rider). Among the myriad other sounds from below (sewing machine, thumping sounds, & faint back-beat of the pea shooters) I notice this sound distinctly and kind of high pitched that goes away after awhile, then comes back. Not sure what it is, but I hope it aint BAD!
Thanks for any info.

sounds
I wouldn't worry too much about it Tomster, I've noticed lots of different sounds like you have. A lot of that went away when i did a bafflectomy on her, i love that sound now and hardly notice any odd sounds coming from the engine....
Wear earplugs when you ride....that helps a lot to let you hear engine sounds and soon enough you will get used to these modern engines. It seems like the old bonnies just had a lot of valve train noise but the newer ones do have some "sewing machine" like sounds emanating from the engine.

Koifarm - thanks for the reply, but I'm not worried about all the sounds from the engine. I'm just wondering what this one sound is from the front of the bike. Maybe I've got a blender strapped to the front forks. ;-)

sounds
Well, probably the best thing to do is lean waaaaayyyy over the tank while standing up on the pegs, that should put your ears closer to the blender and maybe you can isolate the sound....hahahahaha
bill....
seriously, mine has that sound as well my guess is that you're hearing overhead cam noise....with four valves per cylinder, that is going to make quite a bit of noise.
The older triumphs had only two valves per cylinder and had none of that.

You'll need to pinpoint it better than that, to get an acurate diagnosis. Next time it happens, try & guage where it's coming from, note the speed, revs, & which gear you were in, when it started & went away. Then take it to your dealer & get their mechanic to ride it the same way, so he can hear what you're hearing.
It's probably nothing. These twins have a lot of mechanical noise going on. But just for your peace of mind, you should get it checked out.

I've had disk brakes with drilled rotors sometimes make that noise. If the pads and rotor are ok, it may just be the nature of the brake.

Yeah, I've occasionally heard the brake disk whirring too.

noisey noises
I may be the only idiot in town, but I frequently worry about strange noises when I'm riding along, and struggle to remember if I've heard them before. More than a few times it turns out to be my engine note bouncing back off the pillars of a crash barrier that I happen to be riding next to at the time, in a throbbing rythm, and when I move away from it to another lane, it (of course) stops. I've had similar moments with cat's eyes, white lines, changing onto concrete road from asphalt, and once it turned out to be my cat caught in the front spokes, going round and round with a high pitched squeal. No actually, that last one was a lie, but it's only a matter of time.

I get that sound, but only when I ride when its cold; less than about 40F. For my bike it is just one of the cold weather mysteries like the speedo oscillating at about 60mph. When it's warm, none of these things happen. Maybe the T100 is trying to tell me something.

Different Noises
If you get anal about different noises from a Bonne- its time for a new bike!! Something distinct & lasting- look into it!! A little bump or whistle here & there - these bikes arent quiet!! They will make somenew noises now & then- not Hondas!!
L-D-L -L LASTING , DISTINCT & LOUD & lasting- time to check. Mine has some new sound almost every ride. As the weather cools so does the bike & new noises commeth! A bike w/ a real personallity!! Enjoy it & ease up on the worry dept!!
