if every thing was covered, I dont know. I'd check the battery terminals to make sure they are clean and tight. Did you put a plastic bag over the handlebar controls?
maybe water temorarily shorted the kill switch

Also check the coil connection boot, the boot isn't the best sealed already and maybe some water got in.

Stop washing it, they don't like water, as you found out.

I haven't washed mine in three seasons, I just wipe down the dirty parts with spray-on detailer, Windex, degreaser, WD40, whatever seems best-suited to the job. And when I disassemble anything, I thoroughly clean everything I can reach in the affected area.

Talking What Me Wash It

If I wanted to wash it, I would take it out in a driving rain storm, at least all the parts will be HOT.
I agree with the spray and wipe theory. Have not washed the bike since I got it and it still looks like the day it came off the floor. Besides spray and wipe gives me a use for all my old t-shirts and socks.

I wash mine every week , if it looks good then i feel good , check your side stand kill switch and the connections under the tank for that switch

my hard starting (or no starting I should say) after washing was cured by removing the kickstand switch and sealing it well with silicone caulk.....
