$5 Homemade Helmet Lock

Folks:
Some of you may have read that my 2nd Kuryakyn Kewlock took a crap, leaving me stranded Wed with my Scorpion helmet firmly locked to my handlebar.
I haven't heard from Kuryakyn yet, but I won't trust that lock again. I looked at the bolt locks with cable from Boltlock.com, but they are $56. I already wasted $40 on the Kewlock.
The Kewlock was super handy and I know it would be greatly missed. I hate for someone to walk off with my $160 Scorpion helmet as well. Today I made my own $5 solution. Actually didn't cost me a cent as I had these items.
I drilled a small hole in the bottom of the clutch housing. A small padlock fits in and I can hang my helmet from a t-ring found in my box (also had the security lock in my bags for locking the saddlebags). I saw the t-ring helmet extenders for $2.99 via JP cycles today.
Here's two shots:

GaDay Jonsey.

A brilliant idea. Really cost effective and no chance of f---ing up.This is what the forum is all about.learning by other members great ideas.

Generally the simple ones are the most effective.

Being a cheap-skate is a great motivator!

I use a similar solution. I rarely need to worry because the helmet i use most is beat up and no one would ever steal it. But when i know i'm going somewhere that i'll have to leave my better helmet on my bike for more than a few minutes, i use a gun lock. Anyone who has guns in Ca.knows what i mean. When you buy a gun here you are by law forced to buy a lock with it, even if you already have one and can show it to them ! These locks are like a regular lock except that the shackle part is not a U shaped steel bar, but instead a steel flexible cable about a foot long. I never use them for guns being a single person with no kids to worry about. But i always save them in case i find a use for them. And i did ! I can lock the helmet to several places on the bike.

Sorry to hear your lock failed on you ssjones. You may remember my handle bar helmet lock I made a few years ago. {click on link}

Well it's still working strong on my Scorpion helmet and it's still the most convenient thing on my bike. My condolences to you for you loss my friend.
I was under the impression Kuryakyn made a really nice product but your solution seems much more fool proof. I have a feeling a lot of people will adapt to your inventive creation. I mean how simple and light weight is that. Way to go man!

Nice, I don't have those kind of skills! That is essentially what the KewlLock does but it looks much more substantial/durable.
