6-points (Box-End)

I'm not a stranger to tools, however , I wonder where I can find a decent set of 6-point box-ends locally, usually I just see 12-point or the ratcheting type of the same. I haven't went to any cycle shops in fact trying to stay away from. Checked NAPA , LOWES, NORTHERN and most car parts stores. Looking for SAE and metric. Perhaps SEARS? HARBOR FREIGHT? ..............Speed.

I never see 6 point. And i may be wrong but i would imagine the reason is that they are mostly used in places where a socket won't fit and are hard to get to. And those places usually also make it hard to have any back and fourth movement. So a 6 point would often leave you with a tool that has to go twice the distance to fit over the bolt. In other words, say you have to move it back to take another stroke and there is little room to go back. The 6 point would force you to go back twice as far and there may not be room for that. Make sense ? (simple thing but hard to put into words, especially when you are as inarticulate as me !)

Craftsman would be my first choice. I prefer 12-point box-end/open-end combination wrenches. The 12-points allow you to reach tighter places and the open end is almost as good as a 6-point box-end. If you really want 6-point box-ends you might have to go with combination wrenches anyway. Not sure if Craftsman makes double 6-point box-ends.

Wrenches

I definitely know what you two are saying, as I already realize that the 12-points are nimble for tweaking without having to pull the wrench and reposition it for another stroke and such. However, there have been many times where I needed to break a fastener loose or torque it whether it be autos or bike, mostly autos though, where the 12- point did some damage to the fastener. If you guys find anything out let me know though. I'll try Sears. Thanx. Speed.

Thumbs up 6-point combination (Craftsman) Sears

I made a little error on last post. Sears carries 6-point SK wrenches on-line only or at least that is what the manager said at the store, However, what I am excited about is I picked up a set of Craftsman,12-pc., Metric ,sizes 7-18 mm ,6-point combination(Box end,Open end) on sale now for $29.99 reg.$40.00.

Speed - I almost posted a link to those (and the SAE set) but didn't know if you wanted combination wrenches or not.

Since you originally stated you were looking for both SAE and metric, here's a link to the SAE set (also on sale) just in case... http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_1...sName=Wrenches

Thanks, Originally I was going to go with double box end , Each a different size than the opposing end {Because that is what SK offers online}but decided to go box end(Torque) Open end (accessibility ) will profit me better. I have the metric ones as of today but guess what's on my christmas wish list? Speed. P.S. Spock is still kickin'.

Sears does not have the six-point wrenches in larger sizes as of the last time I looked in the Craftsman catalogue, but I chanced across a 22/24mm box end combination from Aerostich and bought it. It's overpriced and not a high-quality tool, but it does provide a six-point wrench to tighten the axle nuts (24mm).

I haven't seen large six-point combination wrenches, but I'm not familiar with what's available either. If anyone knows of any in the 19-24mm range, please post a link and/or information.
