getting ready for the BB kit

I had read recently on a thread about bike jacks that for around the same
price you pay for the Triumph center stand you could buy one of those
bike lifts that you see in the bike shops.
After reading that it put a hole new perspective on me wanting to buy one of those lifts.
I didn't bat an eye to buy the center stand..well I squeaked a little but I bought it.
I have the sears jack and it works great BUT, this will work even better.
I think it will come in real handy for installing my 904 BB kit that is on it's way now.
I also plan on removing the air box and installing my own custom made
battery box with all the connection brackets.
I am still batting around the 42mm Mikuni or the 39mm FCR's I may just run
the stock carb's for a wile I don't know yet???

but anyway I am getting ready

Nice setup...I have almost the exact same lift in my garage now. Carbs arent a necessary mod right away man...hell I pulled 75 rwhp with the stock carbs on the bike with airbox elim n free flowin pipes.

The carbs really wake the bike up tho, with the cvk's on the bike remain's..." forgiving "...regarding applying the throttle and ease of cold weather starting. I dont mean to imply that starting the bike is difficult when it's cold...it's just different.

Been a while since I talked to ya man.....good luck with the build, keep us posted.

Later...

Couple of questions Billy . . .
Is that a Sears Lift? If not who makes it?
How much are we talking about here with S&H?
It looks like it is powered by your air compressor?

Hey Trim
Good to hear from you, I have have been waiting for you to sell me on the Mikuni's.
I read that you and a buddy split the price of the lift. It will make working on the bikes a lot easier.

Hedge
The lift is made by big red I picked it up at Pepboys for $250.00 - a $50.00 rebate.
It is powered by a hydraulic foot pump.
Hey even if you don't know what the hell you're doing at least it looks like
you know what you're doing.

BB

Let me know how the BB kit goes. I will be doing it to my 04 when it needs anything where I have ti open the cases Or valves? I am curious how much more you feel from it?? I got the 790 engine which I am told is (preferred) t othe 865. Heads & cams I am told ? She runs real hot now. When she tires I want to give her a "re-birth". I dont think I need any more than the 904. What year Bonne are you doin??

Ok Bill, I will be as unbiased as I possibly can here. They are very different from the stock cvk carbs. The bonnie is a very forgiving bike overall, and the cvk carbs add to that. It isnt necessary to be smooth with throttle input, it's very user freindly in the sense that when it's cold...you pull the choke and it fires off.

All the thing's that the cvk's are...the flatslides are the oppisite. If the cvk's are a punch in the arm, the flatslides are a kick in the teeth with boots.

I like the carbs, they honestly were the final piece of the puzzle that was my overall picture of how I wanted my bike to perform when I was modding it.

My bike was dead on when I had all my mods in it and still ran the cvk carbs. 75rwhp and something like 59lbft of torque..( going from memory on the torque )...this was with predators, airbox elim, ai elim, a brit customs ignitor box, brit customs 904 kit, and the exhaust cam advanced 1 tooth.

When I did the 904 kit..( I didnt do all the above mod's at once...the 904 kit was last of the above mentioned )...and I picked the bike up for the drive home it was like a totally different bike. The throttle response, torque, hp was all improved. It felt great...the difference from going to the Mik's over the stock cvk's was the same all over again.

I gained 8 rwhp and 2lbft of torque on the same dyno , with the same operator when compared to the above specs. Again, it was like a totally different machine. I couldnt believe how much different the bike was just from doing the carbs.

I should also mention that there is more there to be had than just 8 ponys at the rear wheel. My carbs were not "dialed"...they were just close within reason. The problem with trying to dial the flatslides on a dyno is that you have to do the same thing everytime when doing a pull on the dyno. And the bike doesnt like being wacked open from 2500 rpms. From about 3200 rpm's and up it pull's like a train, but when you wack it it pull's so much air so fast it leans the bike out.

The setup from Bill at Bonneville Performance is a quality deal, it's plug and play. It is also very expensive...is it worth it? That decision is up to the individual, I'd suggest to you to first do the airbox elim and bb kit. Maybe even a upgraded ignitor, and ride the bike. It will feel far and away from the bike you once knew...do the flatslides later. The feeling you remember having from doing the bb will return to you again.

I cannot give any input on the fcr's from brit customs as I've never owned a set. When I made my decision I based it upon 42mm versus 39mm...more air/fuel...more power.

You could argue that the motor will only pull so much air/fuel and the remainder is a waste. The head in stock trim flows 181cfm. 1mm+ valves and port work up's that # to 236, 2mm+ again up's that # to 256 cfm.

The Mikuni HSR 42mm carb flows 213 cfm, if you speak with Bill I'm pretty sure he will tell you that better result's are to be had with +1mm valves. The flow #'s for the HSR carb are from Sudco's website.

The head flow#'s are directly from Bill's website, I would also add that Bill is the only person offering 3rd party ( people who stand nothing to gain from the results ) dyno results on his products.

Thanks for the input Trim
I think I will hold off on the carbs for now mainly because of the price.
At the rate I'm going now I will have to work 3 jobs instead of 2.
It is going to be a long winter and it hasn't even officially started yet.

Sweat
It will definitely come in handy working on the bike.
It's not the best quality but, it is a good deal for the money.
I had thought about making one but I could not make one for the price
I got this one for.
After you add up the material, hardware and the time.
I'm looking forward to getting started I have the whole winter so I will be
taking my time. I have learnt a lot from those of you who have been
through the install before me.
