Shipping from U.S. to Australia

The internet is a wonderful thing. I've come to the conclusion that you guys in the U.S. are pretty lucky with the number and quality of accessories you're able to tap into compared to us here in Australia. I've recently purchased a number of items through both New Bonneville and Pure-Triumph in the U.S. and had them shipped to Australia. Both N.B. and P-T have been a pleasure to deal with. Items have arrived on time and the cost of postage to Australia has been reasonable, and given the strong Aussie dollar, they've ended up cheaper than the same items in Australia even adding the cost of postage

However, recently I've inquired with MADSS about getting some gaitors and sending them over. While the gaitors are discounted at US$32, their proposed postage to Australia of US$60 was just unreasonable IMO. I could have them couriered over for that price

man, I don't even know where to start. I am so mad about the US dollar being weak and all the parts I want from overseas....

quit complaining about shipping costs, please!

$60! That's outragous! Is it coming first class or something? Have you inquired with Fedex & other couriers? You should be able to lower that price. I mean, it's not like they're bulky or heavy, so it should be more like $6.
As for the value of the US dollar. I'm just glad to be able to buy stuff out of the states again. Our dollar sank to 46cUS a few years ago. So to see it back near parity (93c last time I looked) is pretty encouraging. If it breaks the dollar barrier, I'm re-including the States on my list of places I'd like to tour. & I bet your US Farmers & other exporters are as happy about the poor US dollar, as our's are crying about it. One mans meat..... & all that.

hehehe, yes I remember when the AU$ was under US50c, I was on vacation in the US during that time. It's great now though. US$60 for shipping is just not on ... It has to be just some figure MADSS have plucked out of their a$$ because it's not consistent with any other shipping charges I've paid recently.

They are ripping you off-I sent a set of TORS for the Speedy (about 17lbs) via USPS
Priority Mail and it was $82.00 USD including full value insurance. It took 6 days to get there. Just have to do the customs form and list it as a gift. No prob.

I have no idea about the cost of shipping things overseas from here, but I see no rhyme nor reason to so called "shipping" costs. Most are not directly related to actual costs, and some at least add "shipping and HANDLING" cost, which is more honest.

A lot of places where I order things charge a flat minimum rate that bears no relationship to actual shipping cost. I just paid $8 to ship an AI elim kit, which came in a little half sized bubble envelope from the Post Office. Cost of first class mail would be about a dollar or two for that had I mailed it to them. I just bite my lip and do it if I think I need it and can't get it locally.

$60 postage for gaitors?? Thats just rude!

About two weeks ago Newbonnie AIRMAIL shipped me a N.Hyde rearset, Ace bars, M bars and a AI kit for $75 ... And everything was very well padded, lots of packing .. the box was huge.

Agree, I've found Newbonnie to be great. I purchased the clock from them and had to return it because it was letting in moisture. They exchanged it no problem. Pure-Triumph sent me over a grabrail without a hitch and postage was reasonable also. However, seems some stockists want to make a profit on the product and also on the postage. Just seems counterproductive to me as they are limiting their market. Anyway, such is life as they say.

My guess is that MADSS hasn't shipped anything out of the country. Not having done it, they're probably a bit intimidated by the whole process. They need to know that Fedex, UPS or even the postal service will handle the customs forms. Maybe a few e-mails will convince them that Oz is a market they should be able to tap into -- even if it is out of the "Free Shipping Fridays" range. Especially since it's not Friday on the same day!

Thumbs up Wanna split the cost?

Dude, I live is brissy and also find the USA shipping thing B.S. in fact everthing I get items from the US has minimum packaging takes forever and has usually been damaged and works it out way pricey. I've bought stuff from europe, different story, the freight is half the quality of the parts is great and I usually get stickers and magazines ( in German but cool pics )thrown in for free with a backup email to check everthing went ok. Just good service.lesson learned I guess.
Haven't got anything from the U.S.triumph aftermarket companies though, they always worked out too expensive for me. But sound like a good source of quality parts

Just a thought, I want to get a pair of gaiters as well ( I'm assuming your riding a bonneville ), so if you can get em as cheap as $32, see if the price is the same to freight 2 pairs, if so? I'll go you halves in the shipping cost. Freight from melb to bris is about $4.Simple maths eh?
lemmieknow
cheers
