130 90 17 -------- Ok?

I need a new rear tire. The fairly new front is a Dunlop 404. I would like to match the rear to it since I like the way the front feels. The rear 404 comes in a 90, not an 80 which is the OEM size. I doubt that poses any problems, nor does the indy mech that I get my tires from.

No problem with it????????????

Thanks,

Monte

I don't see this causing a problem. Width is the same. Since the "90"is a percentage of width, 130 x .90 = 117mm, instead of 130 x .80 = 104mm. Diff in clearance is approx 13mm, or a half inch. You'll be increasing the diameter of the tire approx 1" total, or increasing the height of the back of the bike about 1/2 inch. You can search for the official Dunlop site and get the actual dimensions of all their tires. Have your indy make sure there's room for a tire that requires 1/2" more clearance from all surrounding parts .... fender, etc.

It should make it easier to get up on the center stand, too. Might steer a little quicker, too.

Thanks, Bob. He did look at it and said it looked like there would be no clearance issues.

It would be nice before I do it to hear from someone who has already done it.

I just put a set of Pirelli's on my T100 and used a 130/90/17 V rated on the rear with no problems. It does set a little higher on the center stand and the bikes handles much better than with the oems' !

Thanks! I didn't want to order it in and find it rubs on something or bottoms out all the time (I could, if necessary, I suppose, tighten the preload on the shocks but I like the setting it is on now.)

Appreciate knowing that someone on a similar Bonnie runs 90s and that they are OK.

the taller rear tire will probably quicken up the steering a bit. A good thing, IMHO.

That's fine with me, Sweat. At my age I could use some quickening up.

Seriously, that is no problem from where I sit. Thanks for the tip. Bob mentioned that too.

He also said, as did Owen, my mech, that it probably will make it easier to raise it on the center stand; and with my hands starting to give me trouble now and then that would be an added bonus.

got 'em here

Hi Monte,

Yep, I've got Avon Roadriders - stock size up front, and 130/90/17 at the rear.

Fits fine... looks nice n big.

Sometimes I think there's a slight wobble, but it's probably my mind playing tricks on me.

Ride safe,
ZAQ

forgot to mention

I forgot to mention... I will probably go back to the stock size 130/80/17 next change. The rear usually touches the ground when on main stand, and I can't rotate it freely, to lube chain/inspect bits.

Having said this, it's easy enough to put someting small under one of the main-stand legs... only seems to need a few mm to rotate freely.

Extra Motorcycle: dya mean the one outside?
I have a Mezteler Lasertec 140/80BV17 on the rear and 100/90-19V on the front and, although I'm fairly happy with that, I've been sort of thinking of having 110/90 front and 140/90 rear next time they're due for a change.
It's good to know that I'm not too far from what's do-able.
