America vs. Speedmaster brakes

so what's the deal with the single vs. the dual up front? Is it really that noticeable? Anyone in here impartial?

At one time the Speedy had bigger motor so the the dual brakes made a lot of apparent sense. To me (and this is just my opinion) there's not so much mass in these bikes that the one front disc on my America would be lacking, it's pretty beefy and it halts me (225lbs.) just fine. But, I can also see where agressive riding would make two discs very handy so it's really up to the rider to buy the bike that suits his riding style.

How impartial would you like...?

I am lucky enough to have two Americas. One regretably was written off in an accident - a front ender. (That's why I have two...I bought the write off back and had enough funds on top of the settlement to get a new one.) I was 'given' a set of forks off a Speedmaster and so the inevitable happened....once a Thunderbird Sport wheel was sourced.

Now I have one America with one disk and one with two.

My honest answer.... it doesn't really make that much difference in my opinion. But I'm not a heavy front breaker.

Why do it then??? I did it for the sake of doing it....that and what ever happened I needed a complete new front end.... and getting the Speedie forks sealed the fate.

Most of the bike I have had were dual disk on the front....but I am a heavy front brake user. The one bike I had with a single brake I noticed that at slow speed (parking lot) the bike would pull in the direction of the disk....The only way to tell would be to do braking test to see which stopped shorter....for me I like the dual disk

I don't know if I am a heavy braker or not. I have and america and a speed triple. After riding the triple I find the front brakes on the america are a bit weak. I have been looking into a brake upgrade, but most likely I'll keep the one rotor unless I find a set of speedmaster wheels and the brake parts somewhere for $50.00
