I'm interested in this. Here in TX the only indicator we are required to have by law is the high beam indicator, so I'd like to do the same thing you did but with both the oil pressure light and the high beam light. What all was required for wiring up the LED?
thanks!

Easy, the wires go through the headlight bucket already. The LED from Radio Shack was only a couple bucks and they come in various sizes and colors. Just make sure it is rated for 12v. Go to your wiring diagram in your manual and look and see which wires go to the lights you want to wire up, cut and splice. I soldered and heatshrinked all my splices but twisting and electrical tape will do, mostly.... maybe butt connectors is better than twisting and e-tape. Finding the right spot on the bucket to drill was the crux for me. Measure 15 times and cut once as they say. The size you drill depends on the LED but it says on the package what size hole it fits. I almost used the stock idiot light, bigger hole and doesn't fasten as securely as the one I bought, it is threaded and has a nut that secures it from behind. I also placed a small o-ring on the front or outside of the lamp between the bucket and face of the lamp, seals it and gives it an OEM look. I figured I could always pop a couple more holes in the bucket for h-beam and N if I decided I wanted it but I was all caught up in the less is more frenzy thus the oil only.

Your bike look's great, love the combination of the scarlett red and black/chrome. Is that powdercoating on your gear cover plate?
Awesome job cleaning up the wiring....the bike is just...awesome.
I recently tore my fxr down to the bare frame for rebuilding it over the winter and am considering brass powdercoating bit's n pieces.....more info on the coating on your gear cover would be appreciated.

Trim,
Thanks much for the kudos. The sprocket cover is the stock one hacked to nearly nothing then the cover or plate is actually a hunk of an old brass door kick plate whittled out to fit what was left of the stock cover and polished. PITA, took many hours with the limited toolage I have but I am happy with what I ended up with. I was gonna drill it out but never zero'd in on a hole pattern and needed to move on. Can always drill it out later or make another one. As soon as I have a spare day.....not.

It has been mentioned before by many, but outstanding job. I bet you saved more than 2 lbs for sure. Love the details, especially how you cleaned up the wiring. Inspiring.

A wiring party? I hate wiring, but I do want to see ya'lls bikes, so count me in for moral support, and riding afterwards.

I was talking to Kenny today, er I mean ramblinfool.......don't tell him I gave away his real identity, witness protection and all, but we were thinking a great chance to get together for some wiring may be early in the first week of March in FL. Before that gathering goes full steam. If your serious and planning on going there then. Depends on how far one wanted to go with the changes but really should not take more than a few to 4 hours. Relocating the rectifier is the biggest one since you have to have somewhere to put it. The battery box we made holds it nicely. Maybe we will make a few and bring them with......
If thats too far away timewise, rethinking is in order........

Hey man...cool! Actually I was checking out the battery box you had and was thinking of making my own (mine is a cut up airbox). March sounds great, it gives people enough time to make plans who want to attend, just let me know when. Where at in FL? My wife leave OCONUS in Feb. to Iraq, so I am really free anytime after that, well except for my work schedule.
